It sounds logic to me, that by removing the pulley-driven Fan on our MK3's, the engine should have at least a little bit more power. How much? I have no idea...

I was checking the kit on suprastore.com, for around 220 bucks. It has two fans, and it says you should wire them to be ON all the time when the engine is ON. (Which is weird, I thought it would work with only 1 fan on all the time, and the second on turning on when you turn on A/C, if you can't make them turn on by temperature itself). It also says it cleans up the engine bay quite a bit, and yeah, as I stated above, by not having the engine move the stock huge fan.. shouldn't there be a small power gain?

Maybe the Turbo guys don't care, as they reach big HP... but for us N/A guys, we gotta rely on all the small BPU's together to get somewhere, heh..

i would get an aftermarket temperature gauge and moniter your temps with your clutch fan and then with your electric fans. make sure youre not getting hotter than normal.

for me, i think they are too much trouble when the stock fan works so well.

The stock fan does but go with the GTE's stock fan. It has 10 blades instead of 7. Although, I haven't heard anything bad from the ones you're talking about. So it's just a matter of preference. A cleaner engine bay or keep the engine looking stock.

dont get me wrong, i would LOVE to get rid of that fan and install some electric fans just for the fact that it would clean the engine bay up extremely well.

but, it is just not on my to do list and probably wont be for a long long time. other things are of higher priority.

220 bucks... ROFL... I have a turbo pushing high HP and a T66 I have one 16 inch electric fan with a NA radiator. The fans are about 30-40 bucks the control unit is $15 and the relay for the unit is $5. You can run a 15 or 16 inch but 16 is oversized and it hangs over a tad. You set the temp to come on, mine is set so basically when im at a stop light for more then 3 min it comes on. I can adjust the unit up higher and I can even keep the car from warming up at all. Go on ebay and pick up your fan. BTW the HP is ruffly about 8-10 HP and your car will rev freeer too!!

rag, rag, rag on us turbo guys...just cause we have turbo's,does not mean we are not caring about the huge N/A population. i started off with a N/A,but it got totalled, but have a turbo now because i WANTED one. we have no problem sharing our wealth of knowledge wid you, just ask we know,we've been there.
i have the same radiator,(PWR) that i had in my n/a,and use it in the gte. i also utilize a relay and Perma Cool adjustable thermostat to keep everything coo

WOW yet another "Urban Myth" that needs to die......

"Free up HP" ummm yeah until you factor in the drag from the Alternator to run your electric fans.... :( (I saw a 100+ Amp alt stall a 5hp 240volt electric motor on a test bench under load so don't think there is minimal drag when the Alt is doing it's thing)

I go for electric fans just for not having the extra mass hanging off the water pump tends to let them last longer! more airflow at idle and it gives a bit more room around the front of the engine.

anyone know how much cfm the stock fan (7mgt)with shroud can pull?
Need to compare to the electric fans. Ive had a look at a couple craig davies electric fans and they look a little too flimsy for my liking.

Hayden makes decent big single fans,

"WOW yet another "Urban Myth" that needs to die......"

for the ALT drag, yes its true but you still make more power doing it electric
then dragging the engine with the air resistance. And its not a myth you do make more power and rev freeer that way
