They tried to make it turbo again but failed and seized the turbo. So, I am thinking parts are miss matched. The intercooler and all that jazz is still there. I plain on doing a tear down and rebuild, but I want to know what parts I have.

For example, what tranny is in it, what ecu and so on. What codes/numbers/markings should I look for so I know what ecu and tranny I have, etc.

Thanks.

There, FIXED.

Now onto your questions: The ECU is behind the glovebox and will be labeled either 7M-GE or 7M-GTE. The 7M-GE is the N/A version, while 7M-GTE is turbo.

Does your VIN have MA71 or MA70 in it? MA71 is a definite turbo code where MA70's been used on both... but it might give you some insight as to whether the car was a conversion from the start or if it really did begin as a turbo.

There are some other distinct differences as well. If the vehicle has a GE AFM(Air Flow Meter) the ECU's probably for a GE as well... I can't imagine anyone spending the money to adapt one to a GTE ECU. GTEs and GEs use very different AFMs. Look for the thread with pictures of people intakes in the Naturally Aspirated section, if your AFM (It's the metal thing attached to the air filter box) looks like one of those (unless it's mine :naughty: ) you've got an N/A AFM. An easy way to tell which AFM you have (and as such which ECU) is this: The N/A AFM has a "D" shaped plastic panel on top, while the turbo AFM has a panel that is shaped more like a "t".

Another difference is the GTE uses individual coils for ignition where the GE uses a distributor.

The transmission is pretty easily identified by just looking at the bottom. The W58 which the N/As came equipped with is quite a bit smaller. The R154 (turbo) really fills up the transmission tunnel.

Look here for some reference pics. (That's a GTE, by the way.)
