I shelled out $1000 for my 87 na auto in so-so exterior condition, good running motor, and fair interior. The 89 turbo 5sp targa with a bhg and cracked rad cost me $2000. But its exterior was great and the interior is almost perfect! It is all about the condition of the car...you can always buy another motor if need be.:naughty:

Paid $300 for my 87 dd. BHG, and wrecked in the front. Slight frame(at the bumper) and core support damage, but not bad. Interior is good except the dash. Paid 500 for my parts car with rod knock and trashed front seats. It's paid for itself now in the money it's saved me.

Parts cars are really the way to go if you have a place to store it. I told my wife the other day that my parts car was my best car purchase I ever made. I got a good rear diff out of it, good door switches, an extra motor with a blown HG, some kick butt exhaust and all bran new brakes. Not to mention good seats all for $500!

didn't I see that quote somewhere: A good supra owner owns more than one- one to drive and one for parts

or something to that effect

I used to have a dead unmolested 7M here that I used as a 3d TRSM when I was reassembling motors in case I'd forgotten exactly which bolt went where ;)

I went and looked at the "89" last night. Turned out to be an '86! The picture that they had on Craig's List was that of a 89 (which had a wing) the first thing that was drawn to my attention was that it was missing the wing. Then when I got in and started looking at the interior, I noticed that the gauges had the hash marks, where the 89 and newer do not. So I looked in the glove box (that was held shut by a bungie cord) and found a paper that said 1986! What the heck? I turned and looked on the door post, yeap, 1986! It's funny, I didn't even look at the nose at first. And I guess I should have....

Also, the interior wasn't in very good condition if you ask me. Outside wasn't too bad, it did have one area on the front bumper where it was repainted. :3d_frown:

When I took off the radiator cap, there wasn't any sign of anything in there. When the guy started it, it was sucking the water out as fast as he was putting it in and it was creating a great white cloud out the tail pipe! ::bhg::

I wasn't sure at first if I even wanted to make an offer, so I told him that I would have to talk to my son, but since it was an 86 and as bad as the BHG was, I would start an offer at $800. He said he still owes $1000 on it and would need that much for it. :nono:

After thinking about it, I really think $800 would be too much. More like $500!
:thumbsdow

Needless to say, when I talked to my son, I discouraged him from it and he agreed. We're going to wait for a nice 89 or newer. :D

It's amazing how well a wife can throw a wrench into things! :nono:

I meantioned the idea of selling my 89 Supra to our older son that lives with us, and then me buying a another Supra later. She was all for me selling the Supra, but didn't want to hear about me buying another. So, I told my son the deal was off and I was keeping my Supra. :naughty:

As far as my youngest son goes, we came across a 87 Honda Prelude Si2.0 with 144,000 and a bad clutch and CV joints for $600. I'm having a mechanic (I just don't have time) to change out the clutch and axles for $650 and we hope to have it drivable within the week. ::w00t::

^^^ Good find. I'd say DO sell the supra to your son and then buy a turbo one later on the road and be happy!!!

Nice find with the Prelude. Price for the work is pretty good to. Check the timing belt, acc. belts, etc. You know, the scheduled maint. stuff that mostly gets forgotten...
