I searched, so meh...

I have a blue top optima... Its suppose to be for boats and water craft... Can I use it in the supra? Yes no? Why or why not? And if it helps, the battery is going in the back...

Thanks,
Jake

From my research of them it should not matter, I've read that the yellow and blue are very similar. I steer away from the red top. I had a red in the supra for a while but it slowly stopped holding a charge, after a week of setting it would be below 10v. But I now run a yellow in the supra, and have been running a yellow in the bmw for 3 years with no problems at all (and the bmw has a huge ass system).

i run the red top in my car without issue. the car sat for many months w/o starting and was fine up until the last down time (drove the car maybe 10 miles in 3 months, parked it for another month and then got to really drive it)

the blue top i think is supposed to be a deep cycle battery and i dont see any problems running it in a supra at all.

After I started having trouble with the red I started researching them and saw/heard a lot of other people with "stored" cars having the same issues with the red. My car sits a lot, I might run it once a month.

MKIIINA: I don't know if you came out to the meet at BoneDaddy's we had a few months ago, but I drove the supie for over an hour to get there, volt meter gauge read 14+ all the way, but after we finished eating we went out to get lined up for pics and my car would not start (volts were already down at 11, and dropped to 9 after I tried starting), a few guys had to push start me. This was with the red top with very little miles on it, right at about 1000 miles.

I can't say every red top is like this, but after my run in with them and seeing a lot of others with the same problems, I decided to go with the yellow as I have had no issues with the one in the bmw. :dunno: And so far so good with the yellow on the supie.

I don't think it really matters jake but do more search/answers here and see what you come up with.

My red top is the total opposite of the reviews here. My car sat over a year and fired up right away. It has also been sitting every year for a few months at a time. I have had mine for 4 years now and still holding strong :)

the age old trade-off in batteries is CCA vs. deep cycling. you can't have both, so the batteries will be trended towards one or the other. red tops are for general use, offset towards more CCA and less deep cycling tolerance. yellow and blue tops are made to be deep cycled, but won't have the the same cold weather perf. no problems using either in your car....just use what fits your use.

As everyone said... the blue top is just a deep cycle. There's a few MK4 guys I've seen run them... Why I don't know.

I've had my red top for a little over a year and I have never had a single issue with it.

^^^I ran one of them in a car I use to own, served me well for over 5 years until I got rid of the car. It was under the name SVR - West Co.
I still have it sitting in my room...why...I don't know. :biglaugh:

blue top means you can do deep discharge of the battery (kill it) and recharge ... and kill it again and recharge... alot of times, without damaging the battery. Whereas with a regular or red top battery, deep discharge and quick recharge does a toll on the life of the battery.

Ok I've been wondering this for awhile and since you found your answer to this threads question I fugured I'd venture into a little offtopic...
