So Cal
what would happen if you were to upgrade your BOV to a HKS SSQ while your boost is at the stock 6psi and stock ct26, would it be a good idea or would it just do nothing?
Would it be better or worse?
Do absolutely have to increase boost to get a blow off valve?

Nuthing... I really dont think you will have any better spool wile changing gears with a upgraded BOV unless you want a different sound or you have very good flow @ 6psi (3inch exhaust, intake, something lager then a 57 turbo and other stuff)

if you put another bov in you'll need to recirculate whatever it blows out back into the stock area ( before turbo after AFM) HKS is good because they sell recirculation fittings. but it is mainly for sound if you arent raising boost and then again... hks with recirculation will sound just like stock bypass valve if you have an intake. (hks will be a little louder)

to get a true blow off valve you need to deal with your afm first, once you start venting air instead of recirculating your car will start to stumble

its kind of up to you, there are many other mods you could do other than that but that one is quick and easy

if you set it up right, an atmosphere venting blow off valve will work just fine with our cars.

how do you mean set up right? with a/f controller? to my understanding (and experience :X) if it is not recirculated behind the afm just like the stock system it'll start to run a bit rich or even stumble

(and when its vented at 6psi it sounds funny until you raise boost or take out the fin)

you just have to adjust the bov correctly.

qft. ran an hks ssqv w/o issue with the stock afm, lex/550s, and then now with the whole she-bang.

if you set it correctly you will be just fine. remember to reset your ecu after you install it so it can relearn things.

How do you reset the ECU?
so if you set up the BOV correctly you should be fine?
what if you run 3in pipe with test pipe and downpipe with the kandn intake nothing else would that be pretty good?

easiest way is to unplug the positive terminal of the battery :)

you just listed what i had before and had zerop issues. pull the positive terminal and that will reset it (usually i leave it off for 5-10 mins) the car will run like crap to start with and then even out as you drive.

You can unplug the positive but that will take a long time... unplug the Negative if you're going to do that so the positive sucks up the extra power (electrons are negative). That way you dont have to spend 30min to reset it, only 5.

Also if you pull the EFI fuse and crank the car for 15 sec (shouldn't crank) you will reset the comp. Witch is the best way.

wow.

all you have to do is pull the EFI fuse for ~30 seconds.

Yes just pull the EFI fuse for 30 seconds to a minute depending on the temperature; it's in the TSRM.

Generally the HKS SSBOV nut on the back should not be adjusted unless you experience stumbling on idle. If it still stumbles then recirculate.

Only the older style SSQV's have an adjustable nut on the back. I have a newer one (a genuine one, the model right before the visual makeover) that doesn't have the nut. The new ones may have the nut again, but I doubt it...

I've been using an HKS SSQV for 2 years now, I only had a MBC, DP and intake when I got it, now I have a spearco FMIC, Hardpipes, and a full 3 in turbo back system instead of just the DP. It hasnt caused any issues even though I vent it.

they dont :D

my car would stumble at low rpms *rarely* but i did try it after i reset ecu aand recirculated from then on... not a big deal either way in my opinion im happy with recirculation hehe
