I Hate Auto Registration Offices

Went to finally get the title to my 86.5 transferred over into my name today. First I had to put insurance on a car that hasn't moved since July. Second I had to deal with the typical condescending bitches behind the counter. Then I had to deal with the fact that since my car is coming from a non emissions county into an emissions county, they told me I'd have to get it emissions tested before they'd issue a new title. I told them Supras can't pass emissions ;) and that the car has a BHG and rod knock. Then they said I'd have to surrender the license plates and registration sticker in order to do just a title only transfer. So I had to go back home, remove the plates and sticker, then drive back up there. I asked how the hell am I supposed to legally drive it when it's ready for inspection....I have to buy a temp tag. AUTO REGISTRATION=another way of getting bent over by the state.:3d_frown:

Also, Texas has a new law that lets the auto registration office use book value to figure taxes instead of what you actually paid for it. Example. A guy I work for on the side bought a Sebring for his daughter as her first car. It's a 95 and he paid $1200 bucks for it. Title office figured it's book value at $2500 and he had to pay the taxes on that. That fucking sux. Any other states do that?

I believe anything near $12,000 needs to be reported for tax purposes as of 2006. I'm probably dead wrong since it's Texas we're talking about here and I live in California.

What about the whole Got-it-as-a-gift trick? does that still apply? I need to register my Supra pretty soon.

I have found that the following attend the official government "Hi welcome to XXXXXX today, how can we fuck you and treat you like shit" school of bitchy-ness:

-Post office
-BMV/DMV
-IRS office

I've checked the gift box many many times in the past but for some reason didn't want to try it this time. I think they do have a cut off age on the book value thing though. I'm not sure what it is but they didn't use it for my 86. I just put down 650 and paid the tax.

Vehicle registration here is not that bad, but the Ada County Air Quality Board SUCKS ASS.

Over 10 years ago, the smog here in Boise was pretty bad. The Feds mandated via the EPA that testing of all vehicles was required if the County wanted any Federal money... So the ACAQB was born... Lucky us. The only place in Idaho that emissions testing is done, and it's the place I live.

Here is the really stupid part. A few years back, the Feds said... "Nice work Ada County, your air quality is now so high, you don't need to test anymore."

Guess what? At first, they announced it was over, and the testing companies cried foul and threatened to sue. (Just the year before, ACAQB had required anyone running the testing to buy new computers and equipment.) SO what did they do? We keep testing, even though there is NO NEED TO DO THIS ANYMORE. We are supporting the bitches who run this, and the dumbshits who run the testing places. (Mostly ugly converted vans at gas stations...) It's an extra 15.00 to 20.00 tax on every car I own.

And they are bitches. I have not tested the Supra in about two years. First, it was out for an engine change, then I took it apart to upsize the turbo and fuel, and change computers etc. They told me I'd have to test it before I can register it, and legally, I can't operate it without current tabs... Lady tells me I can pay for the tow, and to keep my car in better shape... :) I told her there was no need to be rude just because she was ignorant and angry at men. (She did not think this was funny, but I swear she was a lesbian bull dyke.)

So, then the Audi comes up for testing, and I put it off, and miss the date by a few months. No warnings, just a nasty ass letter that my registration has been revoked, and that I'd have to get the car tested and buy a new registration and plates.... FUCK THEM. (Must have been the same man-hating bitch, or her partner..)

So, I'm currently looking into changing my "official" vehicle registration to the next county where no testing is required, and have all my vehicles registered to a PO Box there. (Figure 12.00 per year for a small box rental, and I save 60.00 on fees paid to the ACAQB Dyke squad.) Short of that, I'm going to buy some property in another county in Idaho, put up a mailbox, and "move" there.

It's not just me either. Anyone that sends their kids to college has them register vehicles out of this county. Same goes for anyone with parents or relatives out of the county. Pretty much everyone who can get out of this nonsense, does.

I never did figure out why you had to pay taxes on a used car. It's a private sale, and tax was paid on the product when it was manufactured/sold the first time.

In any case, we don't pay tax on used cars in Alberta, and we don't have emissions testing, and I don't usually mind going to the Registry unless I have to pay a ticket (lol). There are a couple things that kinda suck, but nothing that bad.

As far as post offices go, they're usually pretty nice I've found, except for the one person who used to work at the one down the street from me... she had issues.

when i got my car registered it was ok, the only bad thing is when people bring there entire familly(litterally saw grandma, grandpa, mom, dad, brother and sister brought when the sister was getting her liscence) they took up a ton of seats and crap...pissed me off..

oh and the person who was doing my title swap was like "oooo you got a supra, i always wanted one"...and he did swaped the titles for me fast, and put me first in the line for registration =]

The taxes on THEIR bluebook value is complete bullshit! I'm glad its not down here but that is bullshit! Especially if your buying a car none-running or has some sort of problem, they can fuck you out of a lot of money, you need to get a bunch of people to help fight that, that is ridiculous and I feel really bad we pay all these taxes and they add to it like this.

Idiots:biglaugh: . Just do what I did and register my car at my dad's place in Oregon (no emission testing, no sales tax in the entire state). The only thing I have to do now is get a VIN inspection done and send the paperwork and some money to my dad so he can transfer the plates from my 90 to my 87.

Here, if you pay less than 50% of "red book value," then you have to pay taxes on the "red book value."

It takes three trips to the DMV to get anything done.
