That's right!
Well, actually it's a transfer within the same company.
I'm starting a new position as of next tuesday. My current job has me doing noise and vibration study for roads and highways, which is a pretty specific field. I wanted to get a more broad experience of the civil engineering business while I'm still in school and have the option to be flexible with my employment.
Not only will my new job give me a better learning experience, it's also closer to home and I don't have to sit in traffic or even take the freeway at all if I don't want to. Driving 60+ miles a day in the Supra adds up really fast in gas bills. Also I get to switch from being a casual employee to an actual part time employee. Casual just means I have no set hours I have to be in the office, other than deadlines for projects, but it also means they don't have to promise me any number of hours either which can be bad... This was ok when I started 2 years ago with less bills and responsibilities but not so much anymore. Last year I was out of work for 3 months because I finished a project and my supervisor failed to tell me I should look for more work elsewhere because they didn't have anything else for me to do. When there's alot of work he wants me in more than I'm able but when it thins out, I'm SOL... Needless to say, I won't miss him when I transfer... Official part time means more pay, more benefits, 401k, some stock, and better job security.
Today's my last day here and I'm just cleaning up my cubicle and getting all my personal files off the computer.
[sorry for the long post]
cliff notes: I'm moving up in the world.
