I had the same feeling you had when I first drove my Supra as well. I'm also 16, had the Supra for nearly 3 months, love it to death. I do admit that I did do some stupid things when I got it (raced a little, drove fast), but now most of the time I take it easy, I only get a lead foot every so often. ;)

Yeah, its jsut so un real for me. But unfortunatly i get so much shit from kids at school. I live in a area were kids are spoiled as fuck and drive mustang gt's with 20 inch rims. Kids just simply points and laugh at 15+ year old cars. They just dont understand. They dont have a job, and they dont know what a job even is. I worked hard for my supra, and to finally drive it is something AMAZING!

:biggrinbo

congrats, will! :) i bought my car (which is kindof rusty, heh) my junior year in high school. i was 18 or 19 years old. i got made fun of alot, as my car is quite un-appealing to the eye, but after i did my turboswap, everyone shut their mouths, including the all-trac owner, gt owners, and the det swapped 240sx. ;) once my car is painted, maybe everyone will shut their mouths, but i've come to realize that i really dont care if they do or not.

i love my car, it's for ME. fuck them. :) have fun and be careful! we gotta meet up sometime soon!

ive been driving for 18 years now, no accidents and very few tickets, none in the last 7 yrs anyways and my advice to new drivers is:

1) always expect the other driver to pull out infront of you everytime..
2) even when a light turns green for you, look both ways..
3) Use your mirrors. Ive gotten out of the way when someone behind wasnt paying attention to watch them hit the car infront of me more than once...

congrats and good luck...

I've got to be one of the most aware drivers on the road, I use my three mirrors like my second set of eyes.
memorization, peripheral vision, and hand eye cordination will save your ass 99% of the time, the other 1% is Jesus is going to have to save your ass.:biglaugh:

Good tips.

I always let people go in front of me at this 4-way light by my house. Then I look both ways twice, and then pull out. Its a reassurence that could save you money.
Mirrors are important... keep your eyes moving. When im driving I dont think to look in places but when im driving i feel like my car is a buble that i can see out every side of. But remember, things pull up out of nowhere, so always doublecheck yourself, but dont let that get in the way of driving. You dont always have the rightaway.
Just get the feel for driving, take it slow (doh... you got an n/a :biglaugh: ) and dont do anthing stupid.

Good luck to years of safe, unticketed driving. :icon_bigg

Not to rant- but adam, HAVE YOU EVER DRIVIN an N/A??? FOr my first car, i am quite confortable with a non turbo. I like the power it puts out. I have an intake, 3 inch exhaust, test pipe, 5 speed, leather, sound system, ROH rims, and i think its fun. RIght now i am jsut trying to get a feel for the car, im not out there for speed right now.

N/A is the best way to start with the supra IMO...especially if your young like us. You get decent power, and although the supra bug is still there, it isn't as bad as the "fix one thing, break another" condition i hear a lot of turbo owners talking about. I haven't had to bust into the engine once with my N/A, although I have done at least one thing to every other part of the car.

All in all I think Toyota designed the N/A as the cheaper route to hook people to the supra and get them used to the fuss they have sometimes, then when they want more power they just go buy a turbo one because everything else just seems to be meh.

And I get to pick up my turbo '88 next week, and can't wait...hopefully the roads will be nice and I can drive her back!

believe me, those "spurts" turn into "runs", and when you're just out driving w/ friends, its really hard to resist going fast, and all of a sudden, it turns into a race. just did that after school today, best touge run I've ever done and it was against my friends' turbo FC, and ae86.

that and it was sunny out for the first time in a long time, so we needed to celebrate. now I need new tires:icon_conf

Well actually the supra was meant to just be an n/a then toyota relized that every one else was turbo so in 87 the turbo model came out .

just dont let it get away from you, dont push your luck and keep your seatbelt on.

some local kid just bought a 350z like 3 weeks ago, well it took him that long to roll it street racing w/ his seatbelt off and now he has glass all up in his legs, intestines, chest and face, that was after the car rolled on top of him.

wach yourself its easy to put yourself in a dangerous position.

Oh, sorry, I didnt mean to get peolpe upset. But IMHO, a N/A Supra is enough for any kid. Granted turbos are nice and faster, but maturity and age dont always go hand in hand. S383 seems to be a good kid so i wont bother telling him how to drive anymore, just obey the laws and stay safe.

BTW: what age do you get your license where you live, if you dont mind me asking?
