I always figured it was very hard to do the fix while leaving the engine still in the car, but not until now that I am actually doing it do I realize just how involved it can be. Some shop quotes you $1200 to do the repair? That now actually sounds fair to me, the labour is pretty much the most rediculous thing I've tried doing. If someone asked me to do it again on their car I'd ask them for $500 including the hg, because this is nuts! I just got the head free of the block, and it was a struggle on every single bolt. Maybe because the car has been rusting away slowly for the past 18 years, but wow, I congratulate all those who have done their own hg repairs, and I can say I finally feel your pain.

I just finished doing the HG in my car, still have a few things to finish up on it. Went quite fast though, did it over a weekend.

I think I'm to the point now I could fix a BHG with a 150 piece craftsman tools set and a torque wrench on the side of the road in the dark.
