In regards to the Corolla, the SR5 is the shittiest trim you could've gotten. It's the economy version, pretty much our equivalent to the Hachi go (AE85 or Levin) since we never officially got one. It had a SOHC 1.6L inline 4 that was carburated. The GT-S is our equivalent of the Hachi Roku (AE86 or Trueno) and had a DOHC 1.6L inline 4 with EFI. This one had the 4AGE, two levels of this engine, the 16 valved one and the 20 valved one.
Interesting fact...chassis code in US for SR5 is AE86 and for GT-S is AE88
Holy crap and misinformation galore.
Levin and Trueno both came in both AE85 and AE86 models and both had the same options.
The SR5 is not the lowest trim level of the AE86 in North America, the DX was.
The chassis code for them in North America is AE86, for EVERY one. AE85 is used in DX VIN's, AE86 is used in SR5 VIN's, and AE88 is used in GT-S VIN's. None of these have anything to do with the chassis code.
All RWD 5th Generation Corollas with a 3A block are AE85, and all RWD 5th Generation Corollas with a 4A block are AE86. Whether they have the 3A-U, 4A, 4A-C, 4A-GE, or 4A-GEC engine, the head doesn't matter for chassis code.

i believe its like their luxury/sports model. SR5 4runners are always the most expensive. Things like sunroof leather interior... etc etc..
SR5 means different things depending on year. For newer models the Limited was the top end model, not the SR5.

try again. sr5's came in 4 cylanders or 6's. (22re, 3vze, 3uzfe, 5uzfe) (i think those last two are right for the '95+ models)
22R, 22R-E, 2TR-FE, 3TR-FE, 3VZ-E, 3VZ-FE, and 5VZ-FE.

SR5 originally meant Sport Rally 5-speed.
A few years later, they started putting all kinds of options in the SR5 trim, like automatic transmissions and leather seats.
Agreed, that is what it originally meant, now it's just a trim level like LE, SE, VE, CE, XLE, blah blah, means different things on different cars.
