i believe its like their luxury/sports model. SR5 4runners are always the most expensive. Things like sunroof leather interior... etc etc..

I was looking at buying a 98-2002 4Runner for like 10-12k.

straight from wikipedia
"An SR5 trim package was offered that upgraded the interior: additional gauges, better fabrics, and a rear seat were standard with the package."

In regards to the Corolla, the SR5 is the shittiest trim you could've gotten. It's the economy version, pretty much our equivalent to the Hachi go (AE85 or Levin) since we never officially got one. It had a SOHC 1.6L inline 4 that was carburated. The GT-S is our equivalent of the Hachi Roku (AE86 or Trueno) and had a DOHC 1.6L inline 4 with EFI. This one had the 4AGE, two levels of this engine, the 16 valved one and the 20 valved one.

Interesting fact...chassis code in US for SR5 is AE86 and for GT-S is AE88

Edit: Added actual Japanese names or the cars as everyone might not know the chassis codes...

Yeah I was actually (and still am) looking for one before I bought El Supra. I LOVE the lines of the hatchback...but I would take a coupe also...

i know that the sr5 4wd pick ups where turbo 22re motors..

try again. sr5's came in 4 cylanders or 6's. (22re, 3vze, 3uzfe, 5uzfe) (i think those last two are right for the '95+ models)

as SupraCentral noted, it was a trim package. my '94 is considered an SR5, and really the only thing different was the rims (it came with AR rims- but that probably wasn't part of the sr-5 package), and the non sr5's didn't come with a tachometer. they had a speedometer and idiot lights.

my brother had a '94 toyota pickup that wasn't an sr-5, and he had no tachometer, and his interior was a tad bit different. he seems to think that i have heavier leaf springs in the back of mine, but i can't remember his old truck well enough to verify that information.
