I just had to replace 3 wheel bearings on my 157k Mk3, that was very expensive. With 267k, you could end up forking out a LOT of $$$ for stupid stuff like suspension parts due to such insane mileage.

I have nearly 280k on my chassis and its the ORIGINAL motor. My tranny needed a rebuild, and it had a BHG within a few months of me owning it, but other than that it's in excellent shape. It also came with over 200 records of maintenance and professional repairs.

If you want a car to work on (like I did :)) then offer him something low. Maybe 1000. If you don't want a project, steer clear.

I love mine and I wouldn't change anything. It's already taken a lot of my time and money, but its looks great and now it drives just as well.

hhmmm.. i have been thinking about just waiting, the nly thing that makes me want to buy it now, is that where i am at, it is beyond difficult to find a black 5spd turbo, or hell, even a black mk3 that isnt a beat chassis. and i didn't mention the tranny when you came to look at the car cuz it is actually a pretty nicely built r154, and i will be keeping that for ages to come.

lol, i would have paid for that tranny and the shell if you had said something... i have no problem finding an engine its the transmission that worries me... but if thats true, then getting an engine from craigslist is super easy, and just throw that bitch in the white one... and then when you find a good black hardtop turbo, swap engines and sell off the white one.

how can you tell the condition of a motor through pictures? thats like seeing myspace pictures of a girl... it never tells the full truth...

and a 1jz needs a lot more than a 7m to properly work in your engine less shell...

im tellin ya, craigslist! there are quite a few engines on there right now. In the long run its cheaper to rebuild a blown motor now then to fork out 900+ and rebuild it later...

Just remember ANY motor you buy used should be rebuilt before you put it in your car. Never assume it has xxxxxx miles on it or new anything.
