Hahaha. thats funny, but actually thats exactly what i think of when i picture me driving in the winter with it.

I'll be going sideways at 10-25 mph in parking lots for days and days....

Hell, thats sort of what i do now, but fwd e-braking gets old real quick.

P.S. If i hadn't spent my first two winters driving doing slides and shit messing around in parking lots, I probably would have hit someone last night.

Its all about controlling your out of control car. :)

controlling your "out of control car" in a parking lot does NOT get your ready for real world situations, as roads are obviously, not parking lots.

If you're on a 6 lane road, and you're stuck in the middle in traffic and sliding, there is no way to fix that situation. you're fucked.

Haha awesome, but you might be well fucked still from all the others sliding behind you.

Gotta love the US news stories that make it over here, footage of car after car sliding into a massive pile at low speed is amusing as long as no-one gets hurt:1zhelp: .

Should be some good beach weather tomorrow:biglaugh:

Well it certainly helps. If I didn't know any better i would have just hit the brakes and tried to keep it straight. That would've sent me straight into the jeep.

I know my car slows much faster when its sideways, so I got it sideways... and then some. :)

But my point is i was able to keep it centered on the road as i was spinning at parking lot speeds.

Trust me, it helps to practice, even if it doesn't represent the real situation.

There's not much you can do when it comes to ice. Brakes will still lock up, car will still go sideways. Even snow tires will only help so much. That, and as mentioned not even every precaution can save you from dumbasses that don't know how to control themselves. Invest in a beater.

To the original poster: Why dont you keep the Honda you have now as the daily beater? You said its an early 90's or something? Can't be worth much to sell and can keep the Supra safe in the garage.

As for snow tires...they are very helpful. Get a good set of non-studded snow tires. Very soft compound with numerous sipes. The type of weather your area gets would determine if you would benefit from a larger/spaced lug tire or not (big lugs are good for deep snow).

ABS...great to have. I know everyone says "my driving skills are the tytest shyt evar and I can control my car no matter what" but you can never fully predict what is going to happen or how you will react to it. In many emergency conditions (including ice) ABS has been proven to be more effective (hence why it is standard now).

As for practice in the parking lot, yes it is useful. You may not have as much space when you are on the freeway or wherever but the car may very well behave the same. If you can learn the limits of your car and how it reacts to these conditions you will be less likely to panic when it counts.

My 2 cents CDN

Well my Honda's in great shape, I should get about 2500-3000 grand for it. If i cant get that, I'm not sellin her. The supra I buy will be less or about equal to that.

So if anything, I'd really just be swapping out the Honda for a Supra. The supra, first and foremost, would be a lot safer to drive. And a hell of a lot funner. ***I should clarify. I wont be driving the shit out of the supra, racing everywhere, but doin some slow-mo drifting in winter and spirited rides in the mountain canyons in the summer.

I still might buy an old toyota truck for a winter beater. But I'd much, much rather have a supra with good snow tires than drive my honda.
