I bought a 1jzgte. Came w/engine,what appears to be all harnesses, intercooler and r154. I was told this engine was out of a jza70. Still learning about set up. What exactly is the hydrofan? How do I know if I have the pieces for it? This engine did not come w/fan and the way everything looks, it doesn't look like it's missing anything. Does anyone have any pics, installed or uninstalled?
Please don't fill this thread with the pro's and con's for one or the other. I used the search option looking up hydrofans and saw plenty of that. I have 2 electric fans uninstalled now. Don't know the brand or anything. I just know if I do use them they will need a custom shroud & mount.
What I did not see was any real technical info or pics of the hydrofan option. I am interested in using it depending on difficulty of obtaining one.Someone please educate me on this issue.

here are the parts that the hydrofan setup consists of:

-fan shroud and hydraulic fan motor (bolted to radiator)

-temp sensor (screwed into bottom of rad)

-hydraulic pressure line, goes from pump to hydraulic fan motor

-fan fluid reservoir

-hydraulic fan pump/water pump (one whole assembly, bolts to engine block in place of conventional water pump)

-fan solenoid (screwed into hydrofan pump, regulates fluid pressure going to fan)

-fan ecu

it's like having a 2nd power steering setup, in that it requires the same kind of parts and works the same way.

thanks, itr; looks like I have the pump w/ selenoid just not all the accesories. Another reason I should have bought the full clip. I have a guy who is trying to gather his system for me. If I was to go electric, I guess I would have to change to a conventional pump, right?

Hey Reaper, you do know that you could sue Tissimo for posting your picture without your expressed written consent.................OH wait, that's just baseball. You can't show him a baseball game that you recorded without having the expressed written consent of the MLB.........my bad.

Complete hydrofan radiators from jhot are on ebay all the time, so it's not too difficult to source the parts for it.

For the pressure line you can run AN fittings and an ss braided hose, two 16mm x 1.5 to -4 AN adapters I believe is the size for the pump and fan motor. That's if you absolutely cannot find a pressure line.

Fan reservoir, just use an NA 7M power steering reservoir and bracket. It's nearly identical to the JZA70 fan reservoir.

I forgot that you also need a fan cooler. What I did was cleaned out my 7MGTE oil cooler and used that as my hydrofan cooler, mounted in another location. There are a number of ways you go about doing this. If you happen to stumble across an automatic JZA70 radiator, you can use the A/T oil cooler that's integrated into the rad for the fan cooler.

fan ecu is hit or miss, but the Camry (forget what year) runs the hydrofan setup and the ecus are the same.

^oh yeah, forgot about the SC400. Hopefully it's p&p into the JZA70 harness. Knowing Toyota they probably swapped the connectors lol. I don't know for sure though.

yes, you need a fan cooler. OEM came with one, so I wouldn't run without it. You have plenty of options on top of what I listed.

If none of those sound appealing to you, use a Hayden A/T oil cooler (#401) that can be purchased at any parts store. Should run about 25 bucks.
