In about 3 weeks ill be heading from Sacramento to Humboldt. Google maps says its 5 hours and 40 minutes no matter what route i take. So my question is, anyone got any recommendations as to which route I should take? This will be an evening/nightdrive as Im headed up after work on a friday. Looking at the map both look pretty curvy..and I really like curves :naughty: Any insight, advice, recommends?

Thats kinda what i was thinkin. I mean I commute between sac and stockton everyday on I5 and it sucks. Really rough and bumpy, always doing construction, and so boring. But its the fastest way to sac and it almost never gets backed up. Lookin at the map 5 is a straight line to redding, then gets curvy on 299. Ive driven 299 to humbolt from redding once but I dont really remember the road. All i remember is sliding towards a rock wall with a 300 foot dropoff on the otherside...apparently 2wd shortbox s10s with street tires dont handle wet curves too well. haha.

The dilema is..I dont wanna be on the road forever. Thats why i was considering 5 to 299 cause it has the potential to be faster and still fun..but I figured ya'll might know somethin I dont. ;)

I would say 101 is gonna be a little more interesting and not as much as interstate(ish) as I5. I live about 15-20 min from 101. It is definately not a bad drive at all.

Something to giggle about, given the CHP reference, Arizona's highway patrol is "Department of Public Safety", or DPS.

CH(i)P's and D(i)PS. I thought it was funny anyway.
