HPF Bronze vs ACT organic?? Chatter or not? Need your feedback?

Browsing user feedback here and on the HPF website, MOST people report the HPF bronze disc with ACT HD pressure plate to have smooth engagement. However, I've found 3 or more reports of chattery/harsh engagement even after following the recommended break-in procedure.

Is this kit a gamble depending on unforseen factors? Or are the poor results from not resurfacing the flywheel or using a used pressure plate?

ALSO is the bronze disc safe for using with a Fidanza Aluminum flywheel with steel insert? (Risk of welding?)

Now, the ACT XTSS kit has a 2600lb pressure plate and an ACT organic sprung street disc to guarantee smooth engagement while holding 525 ft/lbs. BUT I can't find a single opinion of a Supra owner who is using this clutch kit. I know that the guaranteed smoothness will come at the expense of a stiffer clutch pedal, but how does the durability and longevity of this compare to the HPF bronze?

Help me choose the right clutch!

HorsepowerFreaks Clutch Break-in Procedure:

First 100 miles
• During the first 100 miles, never idle away from a stop, always bring the rpm’s up to at least 1,500rpm before letting the clutch out. If you don’t do this, the clutch will begin to chatter.
• Clutch will have less play from disengaged to fully engaged than a stock clutch does. Adjust the clutch pedal height, if the engagement height is not what you’re used to.
• No hard launches yet.
• Do not apply full power yet.

100-300 miles
• Clutch should engage very smoothly. If it ever gets chattery, hold the rpms at around 6,000rpm and slowly let the clutch out in 1st gear, keeping the rpm’s at 6,000rpm. Doing this once will eliminate any chatter.
• You can apply full power now
• No hard launches yet

300 miles +
• Clutch should be completely broken in.
• Hard launches are fine
• Full power is fine

I have the 6 puck HPF bronze disk with a steel insert aluminum flywheel, pretty much what you want to have according to your post. The clutch holds power magnificently, but is a PITA getting the car rolling. Traffic is not too much fun, but a lot better than the RPS I had before.

Shifting after you get moving is no problem, but if you are taking your time engaging first gear, it'll chug a little on you. It's not too bad, it's just up to you what you want to live with. I'm currently looking at getting a full face feramic...

I have this clutch and it is very good. You have to rev to over 2500 rpm to engage the clutch and it will cut down on chatter. With an AL FW it will have a tendancy to chatter more. this clutch does have a small engagement travel. just about an inch or so. So yes in traffic stop and go it is a pita. also because with the LWFW, you have to rev up to get the car going because the car is so heavy. the mass inertia of a steel fw will help transfer the power and get the car moving without the chatter. I now have the stock fw and not the fidenza anymore. the fidenza did great but because i drive mine in town so much i went back to stock fw. a friend of mine could hardly even drive my car with the lwfw. aluminum fw does not absorb and disapate heat as well as steel either.

it's a 6 puck, its always going to chatter.

I have never sold the act ss (street disk)

the xt is 3000 pounds clamping force, IIRC.

why wouldent you just go with a ACT ts2-XTG6? is MUCH cheaper (515 IIRC) and repucking is super cheap (30 bucks)

bingo^^

stock FW works great to dampen the chatter from a harsh clutch, and takes the heat far better.

I have a Action Stage 3 clutch in mine and love it. It chugs a bit, and takes some time to get it to be really smooth, but it's very civilized. If you want it to really grab though, it will when needed, and even slip when needed.

What are your power goals?

Another word of advice is to stear clear of RPS and their insane pressure plates that kill engines...

I have the HPF bronze with a stock pressure plate, It held the 422 hp my 1j made without a problem, The only problem i had once, was when i launch the car real hard slipping the clutch & I parked the car right away, the damn clutch welded it self to the flywheel!!

I have the HPF Bronse with the ACT pressure plate. It will chatter no matter how you break it in. And do not use an aluminum flywheel with this clutch-It will weld to the clutch pucks when it gets to hot. Overall, it's not that bad with just a medium pedal effort.

If you can put up with some chatter, this clutch is bad-ass at the track. I have done several 5500rpm fast clutch slips on a sticky track using on DR's. It HOLDS.. If drag racing is something you don't do, I don't think you would need a clutch this strong.

What if you have an aluminum flywheel with the steel inserts? Would it weld itself to it then?

FWIW, I've welded my RPS 6-puck to my stock flywheel once. (3200lbs pp.)

Had to break it free with the starter and reverse engaged.

LOL!!! that's exactly what i did when mine welded it self to my stock pp.
