I have gotten rides and drove a few supra's and always see the oil pressure at different levels in all different cars.. So here is my car's oil pressure at idle and at freeway speed.. This is a 7MGE NA-T stock block stock head 140,xxx miles original motor

This is conventional Chevron supreme oil 10W40 (I wont use synthetic sorry, heard too many horror story's :nono:

Anyways here are the two videos:

Oil pressure at idle fully warmed up:

And here is cruising at like 80mph

Did your oil pressure drop after installing the turbo? Did you swap out the ge oil pump? I would say your oil pressure is a little lower than normal. With 0w-30 synthetic i get 20 psi hot idle.

Btw after working at a quick lube place for 2 years its always the idot owners who let there engines die. You should read up on what synthetic really is before condemning it.

Mecevans: I have just read a few people on here have used regular oil and then switched to synthetic and bamn few hundred miles down the road rod knock shows up.. I did notice a very slight oil pressure drop once It was turbo'd but barely any.. It is still the original 140,xxx mile ge oil pump and original bearings..

mkiiichip: No oil mods at all, original GE oil pump and original motor with 140k on it...

Not to argue, but I am not sure what you are referring as Normal - The TRSM @ OT is: Idle is 4.3psi and 3,000 RPMs is 36-71 psi... Assuming all is stock.

IMO your pressure is higher than what I would expect, I am running an upgraded Toyota 7MGTE pump from DM, blueprinted internally, moly coated gears and shimmed on Castrol Syntech 0w30 (European Formula) Hot idle I am about 10psi and 3k 45psi, on a fresh engine.

I would test with a manual gauge to verify if the electric oil pressure gauge, which is not very accurate, is reading and displaying the correct pressure.

Yeah, I am going to get another oil pressure gauge I just need somewhere to mount it (have my boost gauge in my cigarette lighter spot, Maybe Ill get the double pod pillar from lotek and get a water temp gauge too.. I don't know how much I trust the stock gauge and sender.. I think mine is higher than what it shows.. It doesn't go higher than 40 PSI even at 5000 rpms on the stock gauge.. Time for upgrade :)

Unless you've upgraded the oil system ~40 psi is the max you will ever see. The pressure relief opens up sending oil through the cooler.

On Castrol 5w30 I see ~10psi at idle, ~30psi at cruise (2500-3000 rpm), and 40psi/max at just over 3500 rpm. This is on a 210k oil pump/piston rings, fresh gaskets/orings/stem seals.

I don't have a oil cooler :) I like more oil in my engine than outside of it lol

Thats why you add a extra qt of oil. Oil coolers are a good thing. Get a full flow system tho.

^^^ Yeah what he said... The cooler does serve a purpose other than starving your engine of oil... though the stock one is almost useless... with my oil cooler, filter and line mods I run about 8 qts of oil... though it is $60 just for the oil on a change, seems like cheap insurance...
