Well I learned from having my first car that I needed to keep better record of my Supra. So I've been tracking everything on my Supra I've done, I've bought, and the exact dates, even gas bought. I started a journal everytime I have anything to do with the Supra (Riding in it, working on it, buying stuff for it) with a paragraph description.

So... How well do you keep a track of your Supra?

I've got receipts for everything I have bought for it..........But riding in it???????? I rode a mile in it last night for the first time, I guess I could start that log now still. Maybe you are being just a bit anal about it. What ever could you use a riding in it log for? The gas log I could see some possible benefit, but still a waste to me.

I keep track of stuff, but not as detailed as you. I just remember what parts I bought, and stuff like that.

I don't have all the receipts but I can remember everything I have done and can accurately estimate all the prices.

It's nice to have all the figures to kinda slap yourself back into reality.

Hobbies are for fun. When you start trying to be an accountant with your hobby, it stops being fun.
Yeah...

Not really interested in the total cost. Not that important.

I know what parts are in the car and a general idea of how much everything costs, but I don't have any interest in adding it up.

Why not add up the costs?

When you might be forced to sell it, it will more than likely be a good thing. And you could get a couple more out of it!

Maybe a small amount more, but you will never recoup even a fraction of the cost you put into it. So in the end the only thing keeping track of the cost will accomplish is remind you of just how expensive a hobby you got into. For some people this is depressing.

Strangely I do keep track of costs, gas, work done and dates, I keep a loose log of it inside an excel spread sheet.

I have an excel spreadsheet for my records. I record mileage, parts(oil, coolant too) and any service done.

I also keep an excel spreadsheet of the fuel consumption.

Excel makes it easy to add up the total costs. So far, I've spent just more on gas than on parts.

I think it is an excellent to keep record of what is done and exactly when. FIle away all receipts and the next owner will know you cared for it. Keeping tabs on the cost is up to you ;)
