aryte guys theres this supra for sale for 700$. Its got some rust and front end damage(cosmetic) its an 88 and the guy claims that its a solid runner(whatever that means Im guessing its running good). Its a 5 speed targa top but he doesn't mention whether its turbo or not. I was just wondering if its non turbo would it be worth buying and doing a 7MGTE engine swap? What are all the things I would need to change to make it exactly like an original turbo supra? Thanks in advance guys.

buy a turbo car? I was going to but right now my options are a turbo 5 speed for 5500-6000 or this car. I really like the one for 5500 but if I can make this one a turbo for cheaper then I think it would be smarter to go with this. but Im still going to check the turbo car out but I just wanted to know this just in case that deal doesn't work out

Depends on skill and if you have a well equipped place to work.

You're going to be better off buying the very best car you can afford and getting a good basis for any future mods.

if you have the money to spend on a clean Turbo, just get it. it's more work than it's worth to swap the n/a car to turbo and it'll probably come out to around the same price as the turbo car if you do it right and if you fix the body damage.

NA CAR= $600
Turbo parts car= $300
JDM GTE= $1200 (I either splurged or got ripped)
+ misc gaskets, hoses, & spark plugs
There is quite a bit of labor pulling parts off of 1 car & putting them on another. But you learn so much about your car when you do something like that. If you have to pay someone to do it then forget about it. I'm a mechanic so I've got tools & the hook up on parts. As for my car, its done great for almost 6 years now and this past year I've really pushed it. I kept my parts car, so when my NA trans started to give up the fight I just swapped it out with the one from the parts car.

Excellent choice.

I swapped a turbo engine into my '89NA, mostly becasue I'm rather attached to the car by now, I've owned it for long enough.

I bought an '87T that someone put sideways into a pole. It had all of the parts and ECU that I needed. $1000

I bought a complete Toyota gasket set. $450

ARP head stud kit $130

New timing belt $70

Had the head machined, valves ground and re-shimmed. $950

Spent a couple hundred on intercooler piping, and replacing stuff that got broken or lost int he course of the swap.

Didn't need to, but I also spent $450 on a Lexus AFM and some 550cc injectors. Another $100 on the Speed-source.net lower IC pipe

I lost track on how much on fluids and other stuff, but it was at least another $100 there.

In the end, I could have bought a turbo car in decent running condition, though it wouldn't be in quite the same condition. I can be reasonably certain that I don't have a BHG, for example. (The motor DID have a BHG when I pulled it.)
