How to open a stuck glovebox?

The glovebox in my JZA70 has been stuck closed since I got the car, and I'm trying to figure out a way to get it open. If I put my key in the hole, it turns and everything, but it's not actually turning the hook that holds the glovebox shut, so it never opens.
Someone suggested removing the lower panel and trying to get my hand up top, but I can't get far enough up or get anything in there to remove it. Does anyone have any ideas?

i guess your best bet is to unlock it, unscrew the bottom 2 screws and try to pry it open while pushing in the tabs. had to do it once, and it worked for me

Try turning the key more than just the 90* to lock and unlock and push the button at the same time.

The internal mechanism can break. Least destructive way at that point is to cut the metal loop that the latch wraps around by slipping a blade through the gap. Gotta be careful doing it though.
