How to: Ghettoize your Innovate LM-1 wideband.

The original LM-1 WB case is large and clunky... my first attempt to make it less large and chunky went over "okay" but can use some improvement.

I first removed the guts from the LM-1 case:

From here you can see how small the actual circuit board is:

The idea was to angle the screen perpendicular to the main board like so:

I bought a project enclosure from Radio Shack for like $5, I tried to get something thinner...but this was all they had.
Cut a hole in it, and secure the board inside.
FYI, the LM-1 needs the 9v battery connected to the main board, or else it'll display "LM-1 Firmware.... version.. blahblah" so don't forget to hook that up.

Sorry this last picture is blurry... I'll try to get some better ones.

Advantage: Easily mountable in clear view for on the fly tuning.

Works for me.

Like I said, this is a rough draft... so make fun of it if you wanna. :)

i like! cheap and effective. would be a little cooler to find a smaller box, but its much better than trying to find somewhere to mount a brick.

I was really surprised how small the circuit board was... and holding it like I was in that picture up there made me think "This is no larger than the PLX wideband displays."

My clunky project box doesn't show that off too well though. :(

The ribbon is like 16 or 24 pin, and just "folded" down into the display... If I can get another ribbon like that but longer, I'll put the display in the stock gauge cluster.

I was thinking about putting it in the stock CLOCK location.

Just some food for thought...Be careful with static when handling a circuit card like that. I see a few IC's on there that can easily get zapped and kill your unit. Always wear a ground strap to ground yourself and a grounded work bench.

P.S. paper is a huge source of static.

I'm not gonna lie... I thought it was already shot when I was doing this...

but found some loose connections that I re-soldered and presto, worked again.

Thanks adam, I agree.
Wasn't thinking.

You could make one easy.
Probably just strip back a IDE ribbon cable.

I like the cables that convert to a round design for much easier routing.
This one is 36" long! That'd allow you to mount the main board in quite a few locations, I imagine.
