well i dont want it for gas mileage, and i dont beleiev this was asked before but, can i change the 5th geare in the transmission with a different alternative? when i used to play around with sciroccos, we ended up fitting relatively easily a coroddo 5th gear and it would get the cars at 2000 rpms at 115 mph. in other words useless on street but a good top speed run posibility. Has anyone ever heard of a gear that can replace certain ones in our r154? als o they used to make trans kits for dsm's and other cars... do they have anything liek that for ours? and yes search dies on me :icon_conf

2000rpm at like 80mph would be awesome, but I'd want a 6th gear for that, you'd be stuck between 4th and 5th on the highway depending if you wanted to cruise or accelerate. 115? that's just funny

5th gear from the R-150/151 tranny will work and will lengthen the 5th gear dramatically. I dont remember the exact numbers but it will make you go about 190MPH at redline in 5th with a 3.91 rear.
There was another option, with an even longer 5th gear from a very rare R-452 tranny that would put you well over 200mph.

If it geared that tall, you won't pull redline. It requires far more power that you might think.

If a 5.0 Mustang could pull redline in 5th it would go 200 mph. But it went 140.

iirc the r150/151 is a .79 or .83 5th.. so it would be a lower gear..

how more more top end do you need.. at 6300 rpm in 5th i was doing 170.. hell with the 1jz at 7500 youll go 200..

not quite. the 5.0 actually had speed limiters the first couple of years (my friend has the 140 tach), and they can pull 160+ with the 90+ tach. Oh and the scirocco was doen up hella mad. I beleieve it could have pulled redline if we had better aerodynamics (which unfortunately didnt). It had a 2.0l from some year golf from europe (i cant remeber but it was supercharged stock and came with a twin charging system) and the car had about 225 hp in a 2300 lb with driver car. was a fun little car. too bad body gave out and was parted out
R-452 huh? what car did that come in? sounds interesting. and 170 mph in 5th? thats awesome! but i thought the r154 was limited at 156 by its gearing?

only way to do that would be to drop a getrag or a borg/warner 6 speed in it. and the only way to do that would be with the 1jz bell housing. when i was looking into a 2jz swap with the 6 speed tranny, this is what i was told. no clue about the fitment or anything, but im guessing it might work if youve got the right bell.

note: this post is probably wrong, please correct.

If you will or will not pull all the way to redline in 5th depends on how much power you have... with enough power you'll pull to redline with any 5th gear.

R452 came in Hino/Dyna trucks with 3L and 5L diesel engines. Like i said - its a very rare tranny and you'd have to look for a really long time to find one.

have you actually looked at the gearing on the v160?

First would be worthless unless you plan on pulling stumps from the ground.

6 is our 5th. The V160 5th is the r154 4th.

No you want a taller rear end.

3.5 ring gear from the pickups ;)
