As long as you realize the most cost effective way, and the best way have nothing in common.

Most cost effective is to shim the wastegate, and strap on a low dollar nitrous kit, and free up the exhaust.

simple: search and learn- knowledge is power.

before going for more power, fix ALL your issues- oil leaks, poor maint, cracked hoses, etc. you'll find that the engine lasts a lot longer that way.

after that, follow the tried and true steps:
-FULL 3" exhaust
-intake
-up boost to just under FCO
-IC/pipes
-fuel control device
-up boost to 15 psi max

decide what to do from there...going beyond that costs real $$ in investing in a bigger turbo, larger inj, fuel system, etc.

A good starting point could be to get rid of the restrictive turbo elbow and cats by using and downpipe that incorporates both the turbo elbow and the downpipe in one: http://www.bicperformance.com/products.htm use a 3" test pipe, and a full 3" or larger cat back (or freeing up the exhaust as previously mentioned).

Buying an intercooler hardpipe kit (universal is cheapest, plus you can make them more efficient than any premade ones that go through the fender like stock) and a cheap intercooler with inlets and outlets on the same side: http://store.driftmotion.com/productdetails.php?sid=145defaf1ca2de&product_id_int=287 (the piping can also be found on there too). You will probably want to instal a Blow Off Valve (BOV) on the pipes too and recirculate it back into the accordian hose.

Get a good air filter kit: K&N, Apexi, Blitz, etc.

Get a decent Manual Boost Controller (MBC), there are a few people on here who sell them for cheap.

I personally wouldn't go over 12 psi on the stock turbo or will not last long.

And a JDM motor is BS. You don't know what condition it's been in just because they advertise "low mileage" and "compression tested" of "leakdown tested". If you're going to do something like get another engine, BUILD YOUR OWN, save some money.

Before you do any of this, MAINTENACE, fix all of the shit that needs to be fixed on an old car like this! And last but not least... SEARCH, it's a good function that works on this site if you take your time and do it ;).

Nobody has said anything about the headgasket...

And no, a stock CT won't last very long a higher than stock boost levels...my JDM turbo lasted for almost a year at stock boost...I turned the boost up to 11psi, and the seals started leaking pretty badly within a month.

Also understand that for Supras, JDM engine does NOT equate to bigger, or better or more powerful.

(This thread is on the 7M, lets not confuse the guy yet and bring the 1J into it until he is more sure of where he stands with his engine.)

you cant generalize that though on every turbo...ive now run my jdm turbo at 12-14 psi for more than a year

JDM 2J's are different than USDM 2J's but USDM 7M's and JDM 7M's are exactly the same with the exception of the EGR and wire harness. JDM IS NOT TYTE HERE!

Just remember, if you buy a JDM motor your buying a "Used" engine. I spent $1600 for a full rebuild on my motor, which included a MHG and i've got over 20,000 miles on her now and i've beat the snot outta it. That's only maybe $700 more than going with a "Used" JDM.

I'm running 10psi and dyno'd 250rwhp and 290rwtq.

And last night i walked a 2005 dodge charger hemi RT & a 2006 Infiniti G35. They were stock of course. :)

nice.

i had a junk n/a block with a warped head, and turbo dreams, unfortunitly i decided i would be best bang for buck buying a used jdm.

motor had bhg , and a cracked block (still runnin the crack in the block)
but ive gone through 2 oem style and im on my second mhg. it's a pain.

now i have rebuilt it, the internals looked great, but some where along the line i messed up, and it's causing my pocket book to empty,

dr. j pretty much told you the best ways to get power out of her,

i recomend the mhg and proper preperation for the mhg, that way your safer running higher boost.
