I'm currently in the middle of a build and was just wondering what you guys used/did to clean inside your oil pans. My engine suffered a rod bearing failure.. so right now my block and head are at the machine shop getting some work done, my engine bay is painted and is all back together.

So now while i am still waiting i wanna clean my oil pan... I can see metal shavings from the bearing and don't know how to tackle the problem? Tried searching but came up dry...

Should i just use regular brake cleaner or something? Or is there a different type of spray cleaner that works better for oil pans? Don't know what to use so any help is appreciated. Thanks!

No offense dude but you need help from a forum for this? It isn't something you can figure out on your own?

Does it offend you that i asked? Im asking if there is something better to use other than brake cleaner. Maybe my title should be worded differently to "What to use to clean the oil pan". With this comment you made im assuming brake cleaner is good enough. Thanks for your time.

Couldn't you put it in the hot tank where your engine is at?

Hmm i also took this into consideration, if i can't get out all the metal bits then ill call and ask if they can do that for me.

Personly I would start with engine cleaner It does a pretty nice job just to get most of the grease off, then if you want I'd try brake cleaner to get the harder gunk off ,but as I've said, ask to see if your machinist would hot tank it for ya, afterall you are doing bussinees with him, shouldn't be a big deal.

give it a new paintjob or powdercoat while you have it off

and the only stupid questions are the one that don't get asked. you gotta learn somehow.
