How to achieve best RIDE COMFORT?

Hey people.

My supra lets me "feel" the road a lot. When I drive my sister's '03 Corolla I feel such a difference.... Why would that be? :p

I don't wanna feel the bumps so hard. If that means not having a racing-oriented suspension, that's fine by me, at least for now... I have N/A engine and everything. If someday I go turbo with this car, then I'll worry about suspensions for the handling, etc. Right now, I wanna be comfortable.

I ordered a set of Eibach Pro kit to lower the car a bit. I hope it wasn't a bad choice. I'm guessing the shocks (or struts? However theyr're called) are actually more important when it comes to ride comfort? Well, I have no idea, was kinda hoping someone would tell me.

Thanks for any info posted.

^^ hmm, cut the springs. lol
ride hieght lowered. and bouncy
any type of aftermarket struts for this car are going to increase the stiffness.

The only way to make it more cushy than stock is to put some big pimpin' high profile tires on, like a 215/60R16 or so, and run them a little low on air.

if your supra is bumpy now, eibach's will make it worse.

For absolute comfort, not caring about handling, you can't beat some used, high-mile, sloppy, worn stock springs and shocks :)

I have these. You don't feel any harshness from the road. And because I'm feeling generous, I'll trade you my shocks for those eibach's. :biglaugh:

Seriously, tho' stiff springs and soft shocks will give you a pretty bad ride. Get good shocks and mount them with the eibach's. GL.

I run tien coilovers acutally lol. Stiffer the better if you ask me. But you can't beat a really old stock setup for comfort, it's like butter :)

haha, usa
for one thing, if you have TEMS, keep the setting on normal.

if you have new rims, there's a big factor right there too. put on your stock rims back on with lowish tire pressure

and maybe your suspension is bad, a new set of springs/struts could help out a lot... i wouldn't recomend lowering your car if you're already complaining about feeling the road too much.

very simple to do. just 2 words to explain

daily driver.

got mine and now i dont know how i ever drove the supra daily. never really thought it was thhat bad when i used to drive it everyday, but now that ive seen the promise land, the supra is a horrible daily driver. however, takin it out and rippin up the streets every once and a while is a lot of fun

lol a g35 daily driver isn't much better in ride comfort

are you kidding? i hope you were just being sarcastic.

20 years old toyotas are just as comfortable as new $40k luxury cars. i must be crazy when i drive my cars and think otherwise

Eibachs will not give you a smoother ride. they are a little stiffer than the stock springs.
Depends on the type of shcks you are using as well..but i think the tire sidewall and the type of tire will make the biggest different.
Low profile tires and hard compound tires will be the harshest.
if yo uwant a better smoother ride, stay with 50 series or equivalent.
Kumhos and the Falkens would give you a good ride with some performance.

think about the trade off between progressive (eibach) vs linear (b&g, most c/o's) spring rates. a linear spring maintians its rate throughout compression and rebound (obviously at coildbind and full extension there are variations. lets apply the KISS method here :biglaugh: ) it doesn't take a genious to figure out how this would ride (and react to load shifting). a progressive rate spring is 'easier' to compress (initiall) and 'progressively' gets stiffer the more its compressed (the last 1/3rd is usually noticably stiffer than the linear equivelent). the kicker here is the release of stored energy (the thump). the progressive spring (at full compression) will have a faster release rate than the linear spring (all else being equal). we can split hairs on unsprung weight inertia, etc, but this can all be controlled (to a rather great extent) by a correctly matched shock.

another thing to keep in mind, anytime suspension travel is reduced (read lowered) ride quality will suffer. the shocks and springs need to control the same car with less operating range.

just some things to keep in mind. Personally, i ride on jic flt-2's (stiff as a mofo and low, but when tuned right, not a bad ride :icon_bigg )
