I know alot of us have oil loss, so don't be embarassed how much oil do you loose? i loose about a quart every 2 gas tanks (boost dependant) i will see a nice cloud if i WOT for the first time in a while or if i start the car after a week of not driving it. it's weird because i remember having the same issue even before i went turbo so i can't fully point my finger at the turbo. any ideas?:aigo:

WHAT!?.... I drove my car for 3000+ miles and it was exactly at full and I remember i left it exactly to full, it might of burnt a little... but not enough for me to notice. And i check it about every week or two. This is with a turbo that started to blow white smoke in the winter after it fully cools. Time for a 57trim!

It's in the TSRM, and you don't have to pull the head. Basically you would use compressed air to keep the valves from dropping into the cylinders and swap them out. Sounds like a PITA to me though. I've thought about doing mine, too.

Cams off for sure. It must have been in my Chilton's manual - ~$20 at AZ.

Edit: I've never paid attention to to qts/mile. It's daily driven (heavily) and I probably throw in less than half a quart every week to two and never let it go below the max line on the dipstick. Things got much better after I picked up one of MDC's 57 trim CT26's.

yea i have a feeling its my turbo too but then again i did my ic pipes 2 weeks ago and they had a light coating of oil but nothing major. i also have a slow leak somewhere that is also contributing, but it is slow enough not to leave spots on my driveway.

does anyone have a preference between the toyota valvestem seals or felpro ones? and is there anything else i should order and replace while replacing my valvestem seals?

I'll let somebody else chime in on what else to replace, but word has it that felpro seals do not match up to Toyota, so that's how I would go. Do a search, b/c IJ consistently warns that they HAVE to be installed with sleeves of some sort to keep from destroying them during installation - it may be covered in the TSRM, but whatever you do, don't skip this step.

i can honestly say my car doesn't leak. or burn.

valve stem seals dont always fix smoke problems.
but can.

if the head comes off and you look at the turbo and it's wet looking it's turbo seals

ditto with looking into intake and exhaust ports.

i had my head rebuilt and 3 angle valve grind, and had the valve guides replaced where needed, i had 7 that i could have left but he said if i want a tight head or some thing i can drive another ten years to go ahead and replace them.

my brothers car leaks a small bit out of the turbo drain,

goes through like a qrt a month...

You didn't specify milage with the added oil. Or driving style, such as frequent short trips all week, plus one long one.

Also, you could have an oil leak, even if you are sure you don't have one. When I used to repair Toyotas for a living, people bring their car in with a symptom, and some will say what they think is wrong. It is usually laughable, just not to their face. Anyway, getting off track there, they would say there is no oil leak, but they are burning oil. Then there is an oil leak upon inspection.

Valve seals will smoke on start up, more than anything else. Oil control rings that are worn will usually smoke all the time. The OP said it smokes at first when he goes wide open throttle. That is normal.

Back on topic I lose a quart every 500 miles, I am too lazy to fix my leaks. Of course for me it takes 6 months to put 500 miles on the car.
