How much HP can be run through the Trust Power Extreme II catback?

With my current setup I should be somewhere around the 500whp-550whp range. I recently purchased a nice looking Trust Power Extreme II catback because I heard that it was a full 3" all the way through. However, I looked into the muffler and it appears to taper down to maybe 2.25" inside. I'm guessing this is why this is known as such a quiet exhaust. My question is; will this be too much of a restriction in my current setup? I'll be pushing up to 25psi through my Turbonetics 62-1.

It's bothersome to think that I have 3" running from elbow back just to be bottlenecked at the very end.

Just wondering if I should be looking for a different exhaust system at this point.

It's Not Important Bro
I have the same delima with my Tanabe Touring Medallion exhaust.

To answer your question "will it be too much of a restriction in your current set-up"?
Well, it depends on how quiet a set-up you want. I was willing to give up a few WHP to maintain a "tame sounding" sleeper car. But if you are purely about putting sown the highest possible number your set-up will allow, I think my research on this forums says a 3" is better for anything north of 375 whp. I cant back it up with facts though... sorry.

I don't mind sacrifcing 5 or 10hp. I won't even miss it. However, if it's going to be costing me something like 50hp+; this will be a serious problem.

It won't cost you 50hp.

A lot of JDM exhausts do this in order to comply with noise laws in Japan. You're only options for an exhaust that's a full 3" are.
RS*R GTII
RS*R Invidia
HKS Super Drager
Blitz Nur Spec
JIC
GReddy SP (If you can find one)

Note the RS*R GTII and Blitz will be loud

Yeah, I heard of those noise laws. Isn't that what the JASMA certificate means? That it's a low noise system?

I actually have an RSR GTII universal 80mm muffler with silencer new in box. However, I like the looks of the Trust muffler better. That, and I don't want to hack apart such a nice system and have the RSR welded on.

So will using the Trust system be much of a noticable performance hit? Will it affect the spool up of the turbo?

Id say a 10-15hp difference but when you start getting into the high hp range you won't notice it as much. Im running a Tanabe SHM system it does the same thing. Fwiw Trust made 630hp with that exhaust on a jza70 back in the day.

I hope this holds some relevance here but back when I was putting together an exhaust for a Camaro I had I was told by some people that I would consider quite versed in performance cars that the first 2-3 feet of your exhaust are the most crucial. IE header, down-pipe/y pipe, and cat if you have it. After that exhaust velocity is greatly reduced meaning in theory you could step your exhaust down in size as it goes back and really see no loss.

Now whether thats exactly true on a forced induction motor is another thing but its just food for thought. My point being is that I REALLY doubt you'll see a power loss with a small reduction all the way at the end of the line like that.

This may be true im not sure myself. I do know someone who dynoed with both the the tanabe and the rs*r invidia and made a ~8hp gain although there could be many factors involving the two dyno runs. But I wouldn't be worried most the exhaust system out there have been taken past the 500hp mark
