I always hate admitting this because 'normal' people think it is crazy. I put $20k into my old car and couldn't sell it for $4k..

I only have $4k into the new car but will probably double that soon.

I'm coming up on 14k into mine including buying it. It was all a mix of restoring and upgrading at the same time. Started off as a simple hg job, but very quickly got carried away with my hobby. I have said and always will say its completely worth it. It's what keeps me sane and ironically its also what my doctors recommend to help with PTSD. I couldn't ask for a better prescription that supra! I will never get tired of my 89 supra. Might even get myself another one in the future.

I think he is talking about when they were new cars. That one in the dealership is amazing, it should definitely be kept like that.

Yes, I was talking about what I bought my car for new in 1990. And yes, I am the original owner.

The car you are referring to is still there, I believe they are asking 50k CDN for it, it has 16km total on it and the plastic from the factory is still on the seats. And no, they do not allow test drives of in any way shape or form, LOL. Actually I do not believe you are even allowed to sit in it. Not until you pay for it that is.

OOps, sorry for the inaccurate OD data! :)

And just so there is no confusion here, we are not saying 92,000KM, not even 9200KM, 00,092KM!

I'm betting if you walked in with 35-40k you could talk them into parting with it.

I bet anyways.

Hate this thread :( it gets me thinking.. New future turbo set up is gonna be $3300, tranny will be $1700, 3" piping with 4" IC $900, top end $800 and another $800 for tuning. Not to mention new fatty wheels and more body parts and paint.

And ALONG with that I bought a 2013 Rubicon, and that needs a lift, shocks, wheels, bumpers, winch, fenders and exhaust.

The problem is.. you can buy a "done" car for under 20,000 and it will seem like your are overpaying.. then when you add up the bills it takes to get you to where that car is... your way past 40,000... and a lot of headache. I learned this about 4 years too late.. lol.
Face it.. Rodel's car is what I call a MK3 Standard for Supra godliness... and if he were to sell it (regardless what shape it is and whats under the hood) the max he could pull out of it realistically is between 20-25,000.00. Yet the car is in better shape and would outperform most 80,000 cars.
Thats the MK3 reality.

shit... you can find "done" cars for around 7-12k but that takes the fun out of it, and the pride once you're done.
.

Agreed plus if i was going to drop 7-12K in one shot it would be something newer. This year alone only 1 month in i've spent $4400 dollars on my supra, last year i spent $1100 on tuning, $1200 on a new harness, $150 on 1zzfe coils & brackets, $350 on lip traction arms, $220 on a fuel pump, $400 on lines & fittings, $220 on rail, $450 on injectors, its sad i can remember all that i've spent. :( Theres more but i have to stop there LOL

Plus i only purchased my car for $700 with a blown engine...

I'm up to $6k on the 2JZ rebuild ALONE, and that's with another wiring harness which I had to pick up due to issues with the last one.

I won't even go into the stuff I did with the 7M beforehand, which I only got $650 for when I sold the engine/tranny combo.

1900 so far for car, 2JZGE, R154, dash, round mount subframe, 3.91 LSD diff :icon_bigg

Everything is in a storage and the car is parked somewhere :3d_frown:

That's changing though since I'm currently working on 7MGE to 2JZGE wiring as I'm typing this :naughty:

$34,000 since august on one build that had to be done twice
Good to see that the coke business is still alive and well down there...

Either that or pimping has gotten significantly easier over the years. :p

I keep meticulous records, so I COULD add it all up.

This is not something I ever plan on doing: ignorance is bliss.
I'm with you man. Boostmonger asked me recently what I have into the widebody so far (and estimate for completion), I figure I'm upwards of 30k on this car alone. Which, in reality is taking over a decent amount of expense from the current car, but still. First Supra and the Mk2, I don't think I had more than 5k into either of them, and they were/are just as fun.

I figure with what I'm turning this widebody into, it'll perform 99% as well as a Viper or ZR1, but cost 1/3 to 1/4 of what one of those would set a guy back. And look better. And be unique. And probably spend more time on the road than any of those ever do... so it's worth it to me. :)
