8K?............are you crazy............:biglaugh:

You know I'm a big old scared pussy. I usually change from first to second at about sixty five hundred I think, and then change from second to third at 7300 and ride it out through third until the finish line.

I do have upgraded springs and retainers. Crower 272 small core cams, built head, ported and polished and a built bottom end. I"m sure it would hold up to the challenge, but I'm not sure I can rev it that long............:aigo:

:slap:

Rev it higher. You really need to look at your dyno graph (but I'm sure you haven't reved that high) but I'd bet money that your horsepower is greater at 8k then it is at 4500 rpms. You want to try to keep your average horsepower as high as you can through out the whole drag run. So by shifting higher you'll gain power on the track and thus your car will be faster.

I know I know, but when it gets near that point, my foot depresses the clutch and my right hand jerks down on the shifter causing it to go into second.............:biglaugh:

I'll try and be a little braver next time. I'll also do a datalog run of it so I can see how much I'm boosting in each gear.

IJ, I knew you'd find a way to come into my no boosting thread and brag about the Fat one.............:rant2:

Just stating facts J it's not rocket science.

I may not have the most powerful Mk3 by a long shot but it's had a LOT of development hours go into making it one of the most drivable.

Well since it's facts........I guess it can't be bragging............:biglaugh:

Mine still needs about one more year of tinkering to be about perfect.

Yea, it hit 16 psi by ~6500 then creeped to my 17 psi boost level.. This is on a 2.5L with your same cams (264s) with a journal bearing t67 .70 a/r.

I ran my stock bottom end 1j to 7700 rpms all the time.. dont be scared :) Hell I even had stock valve springs (why I stopped @ 7700).

edit: I'm not saying rev it high in all the gears, just 1st and maybe 7800 or so in 2nd. Just watch where the RPMs drop when you hit the next gear, and try to keep it above 5k at all times. The 1j (with cams) makes the power 5500-6000+ though. The 3.0 bottom will shift the power to the left a bit but you'll still need to give it some rpms for the power.

Thanks Justin. I'll do a datalog run sometime soon and see what it shows. I may need to raise my duty cyle up a bit also..........actually, I think it's the gain that I need to raise.

I'm not so sure your problem lies with your boost controller. If it did, the minimum boost you should be hitting is whatever your wastegate would normally open at.

I can hit positive manifold pressure pretty much instantly slipping the clutch from 4.5K, but this is with a much smaller turbo.

My wastegate is set at 13.5 psi. It seems most people on here hit boost in the higher rpms of first. I may shift out too soon because my car spins way too much through first and second if I'm trying to accelerate quickly.
I'll do a few datalog runs to see though. I may can do it tonight once I get home from my daughters softball practice.
