what a crying shame.... 7m motors are far superior in my opinion

thats a damn shame then... because i would hope with the 2jz being a newer engine its more advanced... haha

rebuilding a 7m isnt really 'cheap'... but it depends how cheap you go, and how many things you feel like replacing....

and i would have gone 1j or 2j if i didnt live in nazi-fornia...

it's not cheap but does not have to be really expensive, it all depends on who does the work. I am a couple bucks short of $1000 on my GE rebuild for the new daily driver, but I do all the assembly myself. $425 of that is my machine shop cost.
that includes:
rebuilding, Cleaning, and decking the head,
Acid dipping, decking, and boring the block .040 over
Ordering and installing the oil pump drive shaft bearings
Turning the crank .010 under on rods and mains.
reconditioning the rods

the rest of the money was spent on parts including all new gaskets, pistons, oil pump, water pump, timing belt and tensioner, 1.5mm cometic MHG, and ARP head studs.

maybe advanced wasnt the proper word. they are just a different animal. and your right, building up a 7m isnt cheap. but for either motor, a major rebuild isnt cheap when you put in lots of performance parts. it obviously depends on what your looking for. ive been in a 2j before, and i wasnt that impressed. i thought my 7m on my last setup performed better.... and the motor wasnt in the greatest condition. but my car had a bunch more mods compared to his.

no one who knows what they're talking about has ever said that 7Ms are superior to 2Js.

on the other hand, a 7m done right is still very capable.

I come from a land down under
Mine has far more $$$ in it than you can imagine, it's reliable smooth and powerful and in no way shape or form would I ever do it again with a 7M.

I could have easily had a 1K+rwhp 2J with full suporting mods for what I've spent and had a damn good slush fund in case anything went wrong.

Don't kid yourselves the 7M is in no way "superior" to a 2J.

if 2J's didnt come in supras nobody would use them. :wuteva:

that being said, 2Js are monsters, but 7M is what this guy is all about (until my 1UZ is in)

haha, yep hide all costs from the wife at all costs......

I bet you'll spend 2x on a 1j or 2j with all things being equal and a 3-500 hp 7m is good/reliable/more than most people can handle if done with just a wee bit of care
