Roughly $835 for a shortblock rebuild. I don't have the receipt in front of me.

I brought the shortblock to them disassembled. Timing cover was on the block, but forgot the timing belt tensioner on it.
All parts hot tanked.
Crank cut and polished 0.010/0.010
Bored 0.020 over.
New OEM pistons & rings.
Stock rods resized/reconditioned.
New rod & main bearings.
Rotating assembly balanced.
Decked with timing plate.
New freeze plugs.
They assembled it. ($150).

If I were to have assembled it myself it would have only been around $685. They have a good reputation, and the local "performance/speed shops" farm out their work to them. As a matter of fact a performance shop here in town was going to charge me in the neighborhood of $1400 for the same stock shortblock rebuild. They told me because it's an import and I was going to race it they were going to have to be very particular on all clearances which was labor intensive. A friend of mine told me about E&E Machine shop and I took it to them. While my engine was being rebuilt I was in there from time to time chatting with the counterman about how things were going. I saw the guy from that "performance" shop show up to E&E Machine and dropped of a few engines to get rebuilt, and picked a couple up. Talking to the counterman he told me that they farm out all of their work to them. The same guys that quoted me $1400 for my rebuild would have taken it there and had it done much cheaper, and profiting off of me. The counterman also let me in on a secret about other performance shops that farm their work out to them, and other local "regular" machine shops.

If you don't see a fully equipped machine shop in a performance/speed shop that you're considering getting your stuff done at then you can bet they're farming out their work and charging you a premium. Cut out the middle man and find out which one of your "regular" shops have a good reputation.

Prices here in town are cheap cause there's over a dozen reputable machine shops available to do the work. In smaller towns you may not have that luxury and have to pay dearly for machine work.

I called a few machine shops around my area I got 1200 to 2400 dollar quotes. My cousin got his 7m head done at the cheapest place. All they do is engines and he quoted me around 1200.

I think I could save alot of money if I put the motor together my self I know I could do I just never did it before.

I plan on getting it rebuilt next winter so I got some time to decide
