How much boost should I have? Only 7psi?

No need to be embarrassed...just lurk the for sale section and eBay for a 3" CAT back. Probably be able to pick a good one up pretty cheap :naughty:

I just finished my KS rewire thanks to Shaeff's rewire kit and expected to see my boost come up beyond about 7psi max but didn't see much of any improvement. Here are my mods:

1. Apexi intake
2. Custom 3" elbow
3. Custom 3" downpipe
4. Magnaflow 3" Hi Flow Cat
5. 2.5" Flowmaster Delta 50 Muffler (to knock the noise down for the wife. :icon_conf )
6. Bosch 110 BPV

Given these mods, shouldn't I have pegged the stock boost gauge? I was really expecting to see 9 to 11 psi. Sound like something's wrong to you guys? If so, where should I start looking?

Oh yeah, check engine light is off so I believe I should be code free.

not sure how any of your mods would increase boost....stock boost = 6.8 psi. sounds like you've got a good working WG....get a MBC and crank it up!

I never installed an aftermarket boost gauge so every number that I put will be from the stocker. When I was with a stock intake/exhuast setup my gauge showed 8 PSI. When I put on my HKS intake and 3" turbo-back exhaust with no cats my gauge would peg out in 3rd-5th gear. I don't know how much of an increase that is because 8 is the highest number on there. lol But when I got my wastegate shimmed, my boost would jump up to 6PSI and then peg out every gear. I love it.

On the note of the exhaust volume, mine is damn loud. I have the RSR catback with no resonator. Very sweet sound which isn't too bad in the car but I've had a few comments from people around work and home. One of the guys from my shop has a 3" exhaust that's very discrete. He has put a 3" resonator to quieten things down.

i don't think u have any issues either. with full intake and exhuast(3'') and no boost controller. i don't see past 7psi.

:withstupi The operative word here is "slight"...and Nick, you're not stupid ;)

On a stock CT26 (not shimmed or no MBC), the most boost I ever saw was ~6 psi...the intake, Defcon downpipe, and 3" CAT back exhaust on my former set-up did increase it "slightly".

On mine, (full 3" DP and cat back w/dump, custom intake w/Apexi filter, FFIM, 2.5 IC pipes, large real-SPEARCO core bar and plate IC, stock rebuilt CT26 w/NO boost controller, NO shimming of the WG, [see my build for details]) I'm hitting between 10-11 psi. So you can see more than "slight", but I don't think it can happen with the stock layout and/or old high mileage turbo and WG.

Read his 1st post...we were talking about a basic set-up. Your set-up is far from basic ;) I'm pushing 20+ psi out of a SP61 with upgraded intercooler & hardpipes...that's why I didn't use mine as an example...apples vs oranges.

Boost on a stock CT26 is controlled by the wastegate actuator, so unless you shim it or install a boost controller, boost is going to be in the 6-8 psi range.

My point was stock CT26 with no controller or shimming and relying on the stock WG. Sorry if I missed the point ;)

idk... with intake, crush bent 3" exhaust, and pvc ic pipes, i was seeing 10-12psi regularly.

With open DP, I was hitting 15psi, and fco.

Joel - I will check codes tonight and see what shows up. As for the muffler, I allowed myself to be talked into a 2.5" muffler by the dingdong who sold it to me. He was convinced he couldn't hang it under the car right with 3" pipes. Since then I've come to my senses and I'm a little irritated with myself for listening to him - of course there are 3" muffler that are hung up under the car in the right place, but I wasn't thinking at the time. :nono: Next year I'll make it right - just as soon as my 5 speed swap is done.

92Turbo - I am auto - for now. I haven't seen any spikes - just a steady 7 psi. I'm thinking of building a boost leak tester, but I thought a leak would throw a CEL. Based on what Joel said, I will run codes and see if anything comes up.
go and slap your welder, and demand your $ back :biglaugh: ... i was able to do my exhaust w/ out a hitch... in my friends front yard... the muffler on my car is mounted where the "test pipe" would go, or at the end of the downpipe... there's plenty of room :-/

Kurt-

you would only get a CEL from a boost leak if it was bad enough to trigger fuel cut.

i dont recall- do you have an aftermarket boost gauge? the stock is ballpark at best. aside from that, it sounds about right. youd be surprised how restrictive the elbow itself is. i have a ported stock one, we should throw that on your car next time im over.

Dave, I've got the stock gauge, but I do have a new elbow on there - I believe Jon made it, and it should be a big improvement over the stocker. I appreciate your offer.

After everybody's reply, I guess I realize I was showing that I'm still learning a lot. It seems pretty obvious now that unless the wastegate is shimmed or a MBC is used, then boost will have to be limited by the wastegate. Noted, learned and filed for future reference! ;)

ROFL, I was reading page after page waiting for somone to say that, and when I dident see it right away I thought I was taking crazy pills... You need to adjust your wastegate via BC DUUUHHHH!! Get an aftermarket boost guage set BC at about 10PSI and you should notice a HUGE difference!!
