Good morning!

Finally putting the final touches on my car getting ready to start it tomorrow, but first I need to put in some gear oil.

I think it's between 3 and 4 bottles, but I couldn't find the information in the TSRM.

How many should it be for a dry transmission?

Thanks!

I have the redline in mine, but I think I put 3.2 in it. Should I put the rest of that quart in there? I still haven't put it all back together yet so I can get to it in a matter of minutes.

Ive put in 3.2 qts before and have had oil all over the driveshaft....

Make sure ^ you do as told above. Take out the actual fill plug up top and fill through the shifter.

When it starts to oooze out of the fill plug, you're golden - 3 qts or not.

Yeah, I bought about a gallon of the stuff because I planned to flush the diff. as well.

Thanks guys!

I definitely over filled my last transmission once, and it was awful... huge smoke screen coming from the tailshaft.

I used 3.2qts.
Just finished putting mine together last week and I plan to check all the fluids today to see exactly how filled it is.

I did it the hard way and filled it from the fill plug and waited for it to come out so I knew it was full. Then I found out the way from the shifter. Oh well.

Yeah, I finished filling it earlier... just put in 3.2 from the shifter, worked last time. :)

Just had to replace the knock sensors though, the pre-89's must be different, I was getting codes for them.

Erasing them now, and going to try my 89 knk sensors.

Car started up today... and once I put my old knock sensors in this block it ran fine.

I need to triple check the cooling system. After spending $100 some dollars on my nifty cooling system pressure tester, I like to use it!

Screwed up a little bit, I was so busy checking for leaks and getting it to idle on the fuel pressure that was SKY high from before my car blew up... that I didn't top off the radiator.

I shut down at 150 degrees F when I observed the upper hose crinkling...

Everything should still be fine, I'll top it off and try to burp it.

MassSupra89: If you're in the Greensboro area and want to possibly meet up tonight... If my car is all sorted out I'll take it out to Main st. in Highpoint.

That's how life is :p . The good part (for me), is older supra owners do a lot of trial and error or testing of their own to find the best methods for newer supra owners, like myself :)
