mine wont spudder unless i give it a rev then it wants to idle at 400 rpm for a sec and or die No idea what is going on with it. Also unless i cruise and boost it for about 5-10 minites it will die when brought back to idle

mine does sometimes when i drive it hard then let it idle for a sec itll spit like once or twice.

when its runnin like shit itll choke itself when you rev it like if i havnt driven it for 2-3 weeks and go to drive it itll run like shit and miss and choke but once it gets goin its fine.

i do however need plugs and wires.

other than that shes smooth as glass at idle.

...alot of stuff can contribute to or cause that.

In addition to what's been mentioned, here's a list of what I've seen fix it....

1. Replacing the EGR gasket at the head
2. Replacing MAF
3. Cleaning out the spark plug valley REALLY good (removing years of gunk).
4. Basically ANYTHING that touches the EFI system

in 10 years I haven't got rid of it and almost everything has been replaced at least once. I jokingly tell people who ask that it's a hardcore lumpy cam. Every 7M I've seen seems to do it on stock electronics. A couple of standalone users I know don't have it anymore, and even there a couple still do.

I've always had a little burp or pop every few seconds at idle. I don't think you notice it much until you get an exhaust. Anything above idle though and it goes away instantly. Never bothered me enough, and I've heard many people say its common.

all the 7ms i had did it. one jdm 7m, and 2 rebuilds always had a slight irregular miss at idle.

in my opinion id say it was MOST LIKELY the coilpacks i was using. everything on these cars is old. some parts can still work pretty well but have little quirks making small misses very hard to track down.

It may be typical these days but it's not normal. One of the things that impressed me about the car when I bought it was how smoothly it idled. You could've stood a coin on edge. The last car I worked on, one saved from the junkyard with a JDM engine later installed, idles nearly as well because I went completely through it after replacing the HG.

While there are many causes behind misfire the trick is first finding out which cylinder(s) are involved. An ignition scope will quickly pinpoint that or rule out the ignition system altogether. Scoping the O2 sensor while triggering off IGt is another way to see who's at fault. So is measuring exhaust pulsations. Larger misfires can be found by using an IR thermometer on the exhaust manifold. Using smoke on the engine is also very helpful. Once the cylinder is identified it's a lot easier to track the problem down. Often the cause is mechanical ie; pirate air, valve clearance, poor valve sealing, deposits, ect. That was the case in the few times I've come across it. The EFI system is rarely the culprit behind any problem on these cars as long as it's been maintained and not been screwed with by those who don't understand how it works.

Since by law OBD-II is so much better at ferreting out misfire it's a pity we don't have it. That said the ecu in the 7M can do it, it just needs to happen under certain conditions and even then it's not very accurate. The code involved is 25. OBD-II looks at the speed of the NE signal just after ignition. It's a much more sensitive method of detecting misfire. That said the causes behind it are the same in any engine.

my car did it for a day, if i started to boost hard it would begin to miss.

all it needed was the old GReddy spark plugs pulled and some new OEM ones from toyota to get it running silky smooth again :)
