Find a house of color and pick one. They will tell you everything you need. And I hope you weren't refering to spray paint lol.

You would be better off going to a local automotive paint retailer.House of kolors makes some cool colors, but, they are VERY pricey. If you are wanting a heavy blue flake I would recommend house of kolors for that,I would suggest buying the white elsewhere. Also, the larger the size of the flake itself, the more clear is needed to to "bury" it.Normally takes about a gallon of clear for a mk3 w/the jambs sprayed too.Any questions on brands of paint, feel free to ask,I have worked in custom paint shops for 12 years and have used quite a few different brands of paint/clear.I can suggest a few that wont break the bank, but are durable/long lasting and hold one hell of a shine.

A gallon should get you by. I did four heavy coats and didn't use any more than that, although I didn't do the door jambs because I stuck with the 8E3 stock paint code, but just added a silver metallic flake into the clear. the bottle of flake cost 80$, the gallon of paint cost around 400. then you have to think about buying the clear, along with the hardener and reducer. It all will add up quick....

That is crazy high for a gallon of paint, especially white.I can get it at local auto paint places for about $150 without a discount.Alot of times body shops will sell you enough to paint your car for a substantial discount.Sikkens autoclear is a high quality clear and reasonably priced(my cost is $65/gal including hardener and reducer). Also, most brands of paint are reduced pretty heavy, typically 1-1 so you only need 2 quarts to make ~a gallon

bahahaha, just find a sherwin williams auto, and get a gallon of single stage. it'll save money, and with todays paint it'll last just as long if you take care of it.

and you should be able to do everything for under $300

To clarify for you, it will take 2 quarts of paint + 2 quarts reducer/thinner and that will give you 1 gallon of paint. From a paint shop in town I get 1 gal premixed for around $120 then add the clear to the price. Now for the house of color paint it it can be normal price for normal paint but when you add fx to it then it get expensive, ie flake, color changing ect. $400 a gallon just for paint for my wifes supra, Blue to green slight shift.

single stage doesn't work real well when you add metalflake to it.Their base coat (ultra 3000 I believe)is decent, and 639 is pretty good clear too.I would plan to spend at least $500 in paint/clear,and materials.

All brands of paint get more expensive the more pearls/metallic that is in them. White and black tend to be pretty cheap. The FX is normally added in a clear binder,or the first coat of clear, with the exceptions of the color changing stuff.

i painted my car with sherwin williams single stage graphite grey pearl (1c6) found on lexus'. its got massive amounts of metallic flake, and it came out pretty damn good. i didnt spend any more than $400 on EVERYTHING including the spray gun. and i still have a quart leftover. this was also doin a color change engine bay, door jambs, hatch area, etc.

engine bay, you can really see the metallic in this pic.

all this paint is right out of the can, no modification done at all (except mix of course)
and its all single stage, tell me you can tell the diff.

I should clarify on my comment about the single stage,it does work well w/certain colors, like your charcoal, because the paint and flake are like colors. But the OP stated white w/blue flake, which doesn't work as well because the white tends to drown the color of the flake. The paint on yours looks good,it's shiny, but IMO it lacks the depth of base/clear.Can also see the flake standing out on the sail panel, which is something to think about, because single stage buffs like shit.I said expect $500 in materials as a rough estimate.By the time you buy tape, masking paper, sandpaper, body filler, cleaners, primers, paint, clear, buffing pads, and buffing compounds. That's assuming you have sanding blocks and a DA also. And I normally go on the high side when guessing materials because I prefer to have a little left over for any touch-ups that may occur.

i didnt see the comment about the white w/ blue pearl. to get that effect the base/clear will have to be used. so ya toy is about on point will all those figures. it will also take a more experienced painter to get the correct effect spraying what should be a 3 stage paint.

When I repainted my Supra a few months ago I spent around $400 in materials alone to prep and paint the Supra. That's not including the cost of an agitating gun (required to spray a paint with metal flake like mine) and the rubbing compound the body shop used.

Old school trick is to drop a couple of CLEAN nuts or bolts in your cup and and shake it frequently, kinda ghetto, but it works well. The agitating guns kick ass,but not really worth it for one-time use.

Never said I bought the gun. I hired a local body shop to spray my Supra after I prepped it.
Gotcha, they are only worth the cost if it's something you do often. Is the car in your sig the one w/the metalflake? If so,can you post some closer pics that show the flake a little more please?

Prep, prime, color x times, clear (with flake), clear to seal. Do the clear lightly to avoid runs and orange peal. The better the clear comes out the richer the color and depth will be.

lol I got some higher end stuff and it was not white either. Dark blue pearl metallic...then silver flake in the clear.:icon_bigg
I didn't use the whole thing either, I like to have extra if I ever need it.
