Nick: LOL I'm trying!

Doc: How did you know that's how I end up by the end of the day?

Tubbie: Bad man bad man! ;)
(you'll confuse the newbs)

Chev: Never smelt it is it anything like AvGas?

SS91: yes it does Tubbie said so!

Adjuster: Good info! :)

If I understand Mikes question correctly he means if the Fuel is the only change made would you need more spark!

I don't think so as it's still volitile enough to ignite but you may need some more advance to get all of the charge to burn before the exhaust event happens (not sure on this just a guess)

This would be seen as reduced milage.

Ian i was wondering if you knew why they can rate something as having an amount upwards of 100 octane when there can only be 100 % ? Ive always known octane ratings as being ( 83 as an example) 83% octane 17% histene i think or something along those lines.

Are they actually using a different system for rating octane that is beyond percent octane? im confused, damn tubbie made me have to think...

I thought octane was a rating of how quickly the fuel burned.

The slower the burn, the higher the octane.

Higher octane fuel is harder to ignight too IIRC. (Another factor in the Octane rating right?)

I'm no rocket scientist, so don't quote me here! LOL

IIRC, pure Toulene was/is used as the fuel in F1 racing, especially during the Turbo days when high pressure small displacement F1 engines were making amazing amounts of power for the engine size. Octane is like 114? This type of fuel needs some lubricant added if your going to run it pure, so some light weight oil like ATF should be mixed with the Toulene. (IIRC< 3 to 4oz per gallon....) Not sure of anything anymore, it's been years since I read/reasearched all of this stuff.

another question is.... instead of the toulene type stuff, can we just run avgas with something like marvel mystery oil or transmission fluid as an additive? I've been told it's too dry.

SS91: octane isn't a % it's as Adjuster has pointed out a rating based on where it detonates.

Greg: Thanks :)

Gixx: Dunno we've ran straight AvGas in the old days and never really did anything special other than stupid high comp ratios!

I know its going to kill my 02 at a rapid pace.... but I don't care, I will just defect it out where I work every time it kills it...

Here AV101 is only 19 cents more a gallon than 93 octane, and my supra is long longer a DD. I'm thinking of running it all the time if its not going to be a problem. I have access to it at four different airports in my area.

I live in mississippi, they don't care.... Its not a problem, I'll just tell the cop it's race gas. We don't have any emmisions laws here other than not removing the cat....lol And they don't check for that either.

I run it in my two stroke 4 wheelers and dirtbikes. Its not that bad to me. Maybe our AVGAS smells different than yours? It just has a different smell to it.

I tried av gas once. It stinks pretty bad, and this had 8times the amount of lead than leaded petorl. The servo that i got it from no longer sells it due to the govt outlawing leaded fuels sold at servo's.

If I was to run a blend of tolune and petrol would I need to advance the timing and by how much?

Mik: It's not just a case of advancing the static timing..

You'd need to run it on the dyno and have some way of playing around with the curve to optimise it.

Probably find more gains leaving the timing be and cranking some more boost in until it rattles slightly then back it down a PSI or two.

About the octane rating, i know for a fact that it use to be based on the percent of octane present in the mixture, although it makes sense why they rate it the way they do, why do they call it an octane rating? Is it something tha just stuck?
Toulene can be bought at a arts and crafts store right?

I'm sure that the Avgas is more pure than regular automotive gasoline. The question is, what is the actual octane if they use a different method.
