How hard is it going to be?

I was wondering how hard it was going to be to put my motor back in. I left the transmition in. Which now im thinking was a bad idea. I have a manual transmition. any tips or tricks would be highly apreciated. Thanks.

Take the tranny out and mate them up before installing the motor if you are that worried about it. How much help do you have? I usually do it by myself, and I have to try 2-3 times to get them lined up right out of the car. I couldn't imagine trying to do that in the car. But if you have help, it may not be so bad. It has been done before.

With or without help it's a PITA getting it to line up. Much easier to mount them together, then drop them in.

Well here is my 2 cent... Ive never R&R ening on supra with stick.. Just mine and its auto... but ive done many many motors R&R got 90 camaro RS sittin here at work pulled motor yesterday resealed everything.. new head gaskets oil pump blah blah blah and fixing to put back in this morning... its standard and tranny in car still...i think its diferant on all cars... but on the supra... id just leave the transmission in car... and leave the motor mounts off the block... that will give you alot more wiggle room...
Putt some grease on the input shaft to.. and make sure you keep trans in gear ... have breaker bar and socket handy to turn motor so once you get input shaft starting to go in you can get the splines lined up... try it that way first.. if you cant get the damn thing lined up.. then pull tranny ...

It can be done, it's just with a stick the pilot bearing has so little play and you have to make sure it's lined up pretty much dead nuts, or you could damage the pilot bearing. BTW to the OP, did you chang the Pilot bearing? Good idea to change it while the motor is out, I don't see too many references to changing it out on too many rebuild threads. It is a dealer item but it doesn't cost too much. I change mine anytime I have the tranny out for any reason.

Yep Bad or wore out pilot bearing can cause hard shifting.. :}

Unbolt the driveshaft from the diff. Get a buddy to pull the tranny back while you and another buddy drop the engine in the car slowly. When the engine is bolted into the mounts, get under the car and guide the tranny onto the engine.
