yep, they have to be pressed per the TSRM...

really sucks, but it's not too bad to have it done (had to change the axle bearings on my old truck, they had it done in a few hours...)

Castle nuts for tie rod and balljoints?

90171-16003 Lower
90171-12028 Tie Rod
Nope I'm talking about the big arse 30mm+ nut that holds the front hud in it's staked and needs to be replaced each time it's removed. ;)

I just did the driver's side hub, the tie rod came off easily enough with a tie rod fork & 5lb hammer. DONT hit the threaded section unless you plan to replace the entire outer tie rod, which ISN'T a bad idea if it's original. As for the spindle itself, you have a fun time getting that out of the bearing, as it's pressed into the bearing just as the bearing is pressed into the hub. If you get a two or three arm puller on the back just right, you can press that spindle out, but you WILL need a press for the bearing itself.

well Krikey!

i ordered the nut. its $4. a new wheel bearing [which im sure ive destroyed] was $93 from toyota, $50 from oreilleys, $42 from autozone. talk about gay!

ill have the assembly off tomorrow and get it all pressed out. if i cant get the tie rod off, im going to white out it, undo it and take it all into my machine shop. then ill just go get it all realigned while im at it. hell, might as well by some 275s for the rear too. oh, and a new turbo. then ill be good.

all this crap is setting me back another paycheck. it sucks... im so sick of this car! something else seems to break every other day. [please, no comments to the previous statement]

I count $4, $42, and I'm guessing $40 pressing, $75 full alignment.
How much are your paychecks?
