I'm planning on doing a 1jzgte engine swap in my 1989 supra. I was wondering if you can diagnose future check engine lights with an American code checker? or if i would have to buy one from overseas?

You just jump E1 and Te1 just like with the 7m.

W on the 1jz ecu if for the wire that goes to the check engine light.

This is the only diagnostic tool we need:

Speaker wire works just as well if you have some lying around. ;)

did anyone else have that greyish goop inside the engine diagnostic port? I assumed it was a coating to protect the contacts from corrosion, but when I tried to jump the diagnostic connector, nothing happened. I might try again next time I'm under the hood..

Yes, lots of grey grease. Corrosion protection.

I hear JDM paper clips work better for flashing the codes out though. :evildeal:

Take apart a connector from a junk o2 sensor and make a proper jumper tool. Paper clips are for amateurs.

Have a couple of those in my box at wOrk. Paper works and fits nice in the coin tray for when I'm not at work.
