Either find hydrofan lines or go with a 2J WP/elec fans. If you want to chance running the hydrofan without fluid...go ahead. That's like running your car without oil.

I have been running a PS reservoir with regular PS fluid for 35K miles with no problems at all. I bought a barb adapter (maybe 5/8"?) for the positive pressure side and just ran hydraulic line to the top part of the res. I used the hard line for the negative pressure side, but I don't think you need a hard line for that... Just make sure its OK for hydraulic fluid.

I stayed away from just a simple loop of hose because I didn't want air getting in the system.

To get my car on the road sooner, I used a transmission cooler to cool the hydrofan fluid, and just looped it back. I will be swapping to a normal waterpump setup shortly.

okay i wasn't clear: my motorset came with nothing on the pump but a piece of cut hose, the hardline is gone. so i can just get a fitting and run some reg hydraulic hose to a reservoir and loop it like that? any ideas where i can get the specific fitting i would need? i heard something about lexus ES hydrofan shit fitting the 1J motor. ?

tissimo, you want to donate the extra funds for me to pick that up i'd be glad to go ahead and do it now as opposed to months down the road when my paychecks aren't 99% dedicated to things like mortgage payments and food.

Dont half ass the build or else itll cost more in the end, or more time without the car.

If you dont have the funds to begin with or the time to wait and do it right, do not do it at all.

^^ That's just the front part. The housing is different between 1jz and 2jz. You need to replace the whole unit. Its ~ $120 through the dealer.

Thats what I did. It has been running for 35k miles now with zero problems.

You can also find them used on SF for pretty cheap. I picked up one for a whopping total of $40 shipped, that has low miles. Worse comes to worse, I can pick up a new front part and still end up saving money.
