when I got my eagles I did go the extra mile with my build up. Dont know if you ever checked out my build thread. Wiseco's, eagle, blah blah ya know the usual lol!
I had it all balanced and checked. Mainly since the rods are lighter and so are the pistons. Of course they need the crank dampener, crank, rods, pistons, flywheel.

The head was run in a 89 for a while along with the bottom end that I now own. The previous owner is going 1jz. The bottom end has all of 2000 miles on it but his rod bearing clearances were tighter than factory and was killing his bearings in short order. We pulled it apart just in time before it spun bearings. So I am gonna get rods, properly clean everything including the piston tops and head,re ring and bearing it along with a new MHG gonna need to have a front cover cut to the block because his was stripped in a few places and put it back together.

If you get eagles, go the extra step and have them balanced and checked. Doward got his in and can't remember the size of the ARP bolts in it, but he can chime in with that info. I can't remember if eagle first started releasing the rods with a smaller ARP bolt, then upgraded, or what, but the option to upgrade to a larger, stronger ARP piece is always there ;).

malloy's rods did Not break because of power, they broke because of other issues, duane ran 650+ on stock rods and his motor did not break because of power either.... i have spoke with numerous machine shops and NONE of them recomend eagles, the same reasons as forementioned, which is why i went with stock- shot peened. i had them recondishioned and shot peened for about 250$ my motor has seen 500+ rwhp for over a year now and about 50 passes down the 1/4 mile, with NO problems whatsoever.

please get your facts strait..... 99 times out of 100 it is not the rod's fault, it is either the Tuner/Driver of the car, the rod bolts(fix that with arp), or the machine shop/engine builder not noticing a small deadly flaw in the rod BEFORE assembling the engine.

Also you DO NOT want NEW stock rods... old used ones are better, the heat cycling over time makes them naturally stronger, again it is all about checking the specs and making sure they are good before assembling the bottom end.

just ask yourself why eagles are 500$ when all the other aftermarket rods are 1200$..... it is already known that the mk3 crowd (including me sometimes) loves to cheap out and buy what LOOKS good and saves $$$.....

in conclusion, i have compared side to side eagles and stock, and was not impressed. if you have money buy a 1200$ set of rods, if not stick with stock.

i've yet to see eagles failing in a 7M so that doesnt justify the fact that they are lesser qaulity then shot peened stockers.
I can't remember on which forum the stress test on the eagle Vs stock rod was but infact showed the eagle rod was infact stronger then the stock rod. The only thing I was not impressed with as far as the ealge rods were their bottom rod caps. Smaller than stock but as far as that went that did not sway my descision. It's still an overall better rod then the stock rod.
