i was jacking my car up to purge the cooling system after changing the headgasket, when my jack slipped off of the center crossmember and pushed the rack@pinion lines into the oilpan. it smashed the pan in to the point where it hits the crankshaft. so my question is where is the oilpump/ pickup tube?

i can use my dent puller to pull the pan out, but i dont know if i damaged anything internally.

so should i pull the motor to check? i was going to pull it eventually this fall to regasket and do my 5-speed swap, as it is i have to pull the rack to fix the lines.

got any pics? the oil pump pick up is at the bottom most part of the pan. if the pan is hitting the crank the you prolly warped the whole pan and it is prolly goign to need replacement. next time use 2 jack stands and lift from the sides.

to dark out right now for picts, it is the front most section of the pan, between the front pulley and the crossmember, not the sump area. there isnt much clearance in that area anyway. i just dont know where the oilpump is in relation to the dent, it is shoved in about a inch at the worst place.

i do plan to replace it later, just want to make the car driveable for now

Yeah, the front area is not where the pickup is. Dent puller, IDK. The oil pan is some pretty strong stuff, and you might not be able to move it much with a puller. Worth a try though, IMHO. Just don't drill into the crank!

Sux man , ... You gotta be more careful ... If you can ,lift the engine , Pull the pan off, Check for damages , Hope , Fix anything you run across that was damaged , Then replace pan with 1 in better condition .

you can sit the engine on the pan but denting it i would think that the mating surface for the block has been warped. proper lifting points ftw.

ya i know , the saddle on my jack broke! the car dropped about 1 ft and it landed on the pan. it still has oil pressure so i dont think there is any real damage to the engine. im sure the pan is screwed, but with only 3-4 months of driving season around here i dont really want my toy down all summer. im gonna try pulling the pan out tomorrow. the rack hardlines are indeed screwed. il get picts tomorrow.

never never never... never get under a car with just a jack. always put it on stands or blocks. i had a friend killed by his car in just that fashion.

+100. Getting under a car only supported by a jack, or a jackstand and a jack is one of the most dangerous things you can do with a car. They sell jackstands in pairs for a reason, and you can get a decent set for under 30 bucks so there is no excuse.

aside from it hitting the crank. if i can get it to pull enough to not contact the crank i think il be fine for the summer. i plan to pull the engine this fall anyway to clean, repaint and regasket as it uuzes oil pretty much everywhere at the moment. so i could replace it then.

im with fixitman. jacks can slip or loose pressure and then your dead. jack stands and the proper lifting points. if i was you i would pull the motor replace the pan and your power steering lines and be on your happy way. why second guess yourself?

if you have a new pan and fipg it shouldn't take more than a day and then you will have no worries.

i feel the pain as i probably will not be driving mine either. so it will be the non a/c'd broncoII or the silvy (not a bad ride but elbow to elbow with 3), 20 sounds great. wouldent happen to have a rack laying around i could salvage the lines off of?

thanks 1j, i needed that info. so nothing but the pan and lines on the rack, a quick fix should suffice then till the fall rebuild
