Oh, and carb'd SBC swaps are disgusting...

Who's going to run a carb on a LS-X or LS-7? Maybe a strip only car, but not likely on a street driven car.

As far as getting the power to the ground...slicks, low gearing, and a TH trans with a trans brake will take care of that.

Much like anything else... if you are going to do it... do it right.

We've all made fun of those guys that just slap some cheezeball 350 in there. No creativity, no attention to detail...

In contrast... there is a guy over on SupraForums that is putting a nice BIG Lexus V8 into his Supra. No detail is left untouched. Sure... a few guys will get all uppity about this so-called bastardization of the "almighty". Most guys are really watching this build closely and can't wait to see the final product - hopefully in person - myself included.
The dynamometer doesn't give a shit about creativity.

You're right, but imo low gearing, a TH trans, and slicks aren't street car items. I like nice transmissions. The TH400 does one thing well, and that's putting power to the ground. I don't like driving around with them, especially with the high stall converter you'd be using. Again, that's just me, and we're getting off topic. :)

I didn't mean a carb'd LSX. I meant like a 70's or 80's carb'd 350CI SBC

I think it depends on the turbo sizing. You can make just as much power as you need, but thanks to the extra liter of displacement, you can start making it very early with the right turbos.

True, I was assuming large turbos. Two small ones would make for an amazing powerband.

What fuel do you use for 12:1?

VP c10 or any of the wide variety of gas stations that have 110 at the pump.
Propane wouldn't be bad and E85 should have the octane needed, if you can find it around you.

IIRC CJsupra90 was going to use twin ct2657s, that would be great spool and great power for pump gas numbers, just remember the et-streets.

If you're only in it for HP then so be it.

Area under the curve, my friend. You can get excited about a peak horsepower number all you want, but a well-tuned big V8 that has power all about the RPM range is what I'd prefer.

Then why'd you get a Supra?

I'm not arguing with you, as my next project will either be a blown Trans Am or twin small turbos, but Supras are known for peak power numbers

I like the Supra for what it is, and when I do upgrades it is with my interests in mind. I'm shooting for a very streetable 400 horsepower with 300 of it available from 3500 RPMs to redline.

Ray's car is pretty much exactly what I'd want in a powerband:

edit: I didn't really answer your question. I wanted a Japanese sports car that was stylish, reasonably quick, and reliable. I didn't want the interior to be falling apart (so domestic cars were right out) and I didn't have a ton of money to spend when I was 20. I lucked into finding my 92 for $5500 around 4.5 years ago, it only had 83K miles and was nearly mint.

Nothing better than a 4.6L 32V DOHC TWIN TURBO V8 with lexus reliability, the 1UZFE is one of the best japanese engines ever built, just not as commonly used on street cars so never picked up as much mainstream support. I'd say if you can afford it, do it youll be much happier with driveability I would imagine, and the sheer badasseness

Totally missed my original point.

If you are going to do it... do it right! Don't just drop some POS 350 in there all covered in grease and oil and call it a day. This is a Supra - not some rustbucket.

Grab a nice Lexus V8 powerplant and make it look like it came in the Supra. Then you will get the HP, area under the curve, and props from the community.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

you have a problem with chebbies, you got beat by a camaro as you were a kid didnt you, was there a mullet involved??? Whats your deal with a chebbie, matter of fact, I have a 89 roller supra ready for SBC lovin'. twin t3's blowing through a 750 double pumper tweaked for pressure. 600+hp soooo cheap and easy. Have fun with your 1uz, find a shortblock for 75 dollars and you can complain about sbc, until then.... keep quiet!

I come from a land down under
I'd like to do a 500+ci Aluminium BBC in a Mk3 :)

I think it'd be a total blast to drive and with modern management made to drive nicely and get reasonable economy without being a fussy fragile high strung bitch.

If it looks like it belongs there (and no, I don't mean some ragged out v8 in a ragged out Supra - have some pride) then I'm fine - yes, even with a chebbie powerplant.

The problem here is most of the people doing this swap go to the local junkyard and pick up what I can only assume is the nastiest (and I'm not using opposite talk here) V8 they can find. It is like they are drawn to the ugliest V8 in the lot.

Do whatever you want but don't come crying to this board when people don't give your car the respect you didn't give it. :)

I hate carbs, I hate carbs with a passion there outdated peices that people should have quite wasting there time with when efi was perfected in the late 80's/90's......I really hate carbs

I have to agree with keith, you're part of some seriously ultra gayness if you do the fore mentioned.. its like the guys that throw the old 350's and crap into the 240z, its really a damn shame.

its disgusting, theres really no respect for ppl like that IMO. In fact I'd go as far as to say if theres one thing in the entire import community I hate its sacrilege like that. theres exceptions sure, but not in that scenario.
