Yes, the HT kit will last longer than the stock rubber hoses. The problem is you can't use the HT kit for many of the hoses in the engine bay.

Explain. What hoses are not replaced?

I thought the kit replaced all vacuum hoses and nothing else. Am I mistaken?

Dang... do yourself a favor and call the guys at Champion Toyota Gulf Freeway or Elmhurst Toyota.

I called my local parts guy for the accordian hose when mine broke. I nearly passed out when they gave me a price. I quickly called Jeff Watson. The hose arrived NEXT DAY AIR and was still significantly less than the quote I got locally.

Also, you can replace some of the other hoses (besides just the vacuum) with the HT hoses. Just not very many extra hoses though.

Keep in mind not all silicone hose is created equal. Some have more silicone than others. The HT stuff has a high content so it's good quality. It's normally used only for vacuum though. That said not all vacuum hoses should be replaced with silicone. Depends on the length versus diameter and wall thickness. For example using silicone on the brake booster is a bad idea. I know people do it but it's not wise.

Silicone's heat handling properties are it's strength. Unfortunately that property reduces it's stiffness. It can be used for coolant (in fact it works better for that than most materials) but only when it has a reinforced wall to prevent expansion or collapse. Don't use it for fuel and oil as the material is not chemically compatible with them. The higher the silicone content in the hose the worse the effects will be.

Tell me about it ;). I bought the cheap, thin wall autozone silicone hose kit and replaced most easily accessed hoses to see what would happen. Everything was fine for an hour or so, then I notice that the BPV wasn't working. so I pulled over and checked the hoses and sure enough, the hoses on the BPV had colapsed on themselves because they got too maleable (sp?).

Just a simple comparison I did way back in the day.

Great write up, Keith. Very much appreciated.

So is the overall concensus that the Hose Techniques kit is worth it over standard vacuum hoses? I just want to go through and replace my vacuum lines since most are getting up in age, and I want the best available option.
