Well it's some 10 degrees around these parts during winter and my car has been making this weird churning noise when it starts but usually goes away after about 5 seconds and I think it's the belt because it's squeaking now. But what I'm really concerned about is this horrible grinding noise that has more recently begun and lasts for a second or two. What could it be?

not enough oil flow on cold start ups. what weight oil are you using?

10W40. Yea apparently it was bone dry from oil but I had filled it up a quart or two so idk how it could've totally lost all of the oil. Oh well I got the belt fixed so now everything sounds normal

Idk what a block heater is so no; what oil should I get because the oil I'm using is specifically for long mileage

Block heater is just that, it keeps the block warm at night, some are dip-stick heaters, keeps the oil warm.

5w, or 0w oil. Some use 30 to 40.

Read the section on oil and lubracants. Lot of good info there.
