Im beat... Im tired... Im worn out... Im FRUSTRATED!

I'm gunna just give the clift notes, because I gotta get some sleep... I'll detail more tomorrow...

Basically:

Practically new Mickey Thomson drag radials + 21 pounds of boost = spinning uncontrollably!

OK, got 4 runs in tonight, and here are my 60 footers...

2.9, 2.8, 2.9, 4.3 <<<< YES! 4.3 second 60 foot!

Did 6000rpm dump, 5000rpm dump, 4000rpm dump, feathered the clutch on 3000rpm launch... Spiiiiiiin, grab, shift, spinnnnn, grab, shift, spiiiiiin...grab.....

I tried 9psi runs, and I tried 21psi runs... Best time was 9.01 @86mph and worst time was 11.2x @60mph... *guess which 60 footer was the 11 second run* 1/8th mile of course... The last run, near the end, it broke loose so bad, I nearly fish-tailed it into the next lane... I let off the gas and coasted across the line: took it back to the pits and parked it... *yes, it scared me*

I got some GREAT burn outs... :D:D:D But I couldnt hook for anything... Whats the secret to drag radials and launching? Should I just sell them and get true slicks?

The best part of the night: on the way to the track, I raced an early 90s vette that had cams, heads, all kinds of exhaust and motor work... From a 40mph roll, he lurched about a car and a half but when I hit full spool, I ran right past him... Shut down at 130... He actually went to the track to run, so he came over and we talked... Good kill for me :) My best yet!

Im just bummed... I need to tune my car bad... But thats another thread... I put about a gallon and a 1/2 of 112octane in with half a tank of 93, just to be safe with the high boost... That stuff smells so sweet... I can still smell it...

Anyway, I'll be more detailed about my runs tomorrow... I'll look at the video footage, see what was happening... Feel free to laugh at my numbers, I know they're sad... Especially for what I have and what I was HOPING for... *7s* :( go ahead, kick me when Im down, lol...

All right, later everyone...
Jake

Will get the vid, somehow... I think there is a shop that puts video on disk... I'll see tomorrow...

IJ, first run was at 24psi *tire pressure*, then dropped to 18, 14 and 10... 10 is when it got away from me really bad...

Ok, look, seriously you guys *cartman's voice* Im tired... I'll work on the vid tomorrow...

And Jayson, get to work, you have alot of catchin up to do with me :D:D:D I expect you to hold your own with me when I come to Tampa in november... *now mull that over whilst I go sleep next to the sweet and beautiful Miss Tamara* :D:D:D *suckuh*

well

3000 rpm and feathering.. i am surprised you didn't bog off the line ;)
the correct way is around 4500-5500 rpm and then modulate the clutch to prevent slipping but to achieve maximum traction. Of course as always it is easier said (or typed in this case) then done ;)

WTH is modulate mean? (its a joke dont answer that)
ok
from what i gather, maybe you dont have the weight right, like you got to much power going to the back end, and they are not pushed down just right, so that with the power + the wrong weight = tire spin.
dunno just a wild ass guess.

Guys are running 8 second 1/4s on MT DR's, trust me it's not the tires. Best 60 I've cut so far on my 18 inch BFG's is 1.86, which ironically matches my best with 16 inch MT slicks.

If you're running drop springs and stiff shocks that may be part of the traction problem. Also, a poorly prepped track doesn't help. Tires gotta be hot, but if you get them too hot you're just wasting rubber.

Practice, practice, practice. Good luck!

Figgie, I didnt bog because I just spun... If I grabbed, I would have definately bogged... As a matter of fact, with my "bald" MT's, the first time I ever used them, I launched at 3000 rpm and bogged badly...

Oneandgone, I am dropped on Eibachs with KYB shocks, but on my "bald" MT drag radials, I was pulling 1.8 60 footers... I cant believe Im making so much power Im spinning, because even on my 9psi runs, I was still cutting shitty 60 footers... Im going to put my bald MT's on and see what I do next friday night...

Is there a trick to running these tires? Like DONT do a massive burn out? I was thinking maybe I was making the tire too slick by getting it too hot... So the tire was slippery...

I watched the video today, it's almost too embarrassing to show... I'll try to get it on line... It's only about 2 minutes of film... *four runs* The last run was where I nearly lost it, but the video went blurry... So you cant see my sweet fishtail! The first run, you can hear this biker talkin shit about me & my car... He was saying I was trying to race him on the way to the track, I was actually just merging into traffic, and he started bouncing off the rev limiter trying to get around me... Had I been trying to race him, I would've beat him... Its funny, because you can hear Tamara say: thats my car... LOL! Dueche bag talkin shit and the owner of the car is standing right beside him... filming... lol... Then the guy kinda chills, but when I take off, he's like, damn he's just spinning he should get slicks: and Tamara says, he's on drag radials... HAHA! I love my wife!

Anyway, Outofstep, if you read this, if you think you can rip this off my camera, let me know...

Ive heard the MT tire is soo soft that you dont wanna do big crazy burnouts or you'll scorch the tread. Dunno, Ive never had experience on em. I'm gonna be pickin up some MT slicks pretty soon, so we'll see.

i was always told with dr's lower them to 15psi tire pressure, then do a 6sec or so burnout, then just launch. my nitto;s grab great on the street. havent gotten to try them at the track yet. might be that they are brand new. did you have them heatcycled first? it costs extra but helps.

Justin, Im thinkin this car will be more like 11 seconds WHEN it hooks... Remember, its untuned now, there is so much untouched here...

I did lower the pressure, never helped... Even on low 9psi runs, still no grabby... Did pretty long burn outs, maybe too long? 10 second maybe? Hard to tell when yur doin it, I just get the smoke up, and pull forward... What's heat cycling? *obviously never had it done, lol*

Its not me... Its the tires... I dont have THESE MT drag radials...

I have THEEEESE drag radials...

I would bet the first tires would hook a LOT better... Now, I will say this, the second tires, the ones i have, hook pretty good on the street, but the soft side walls make it pretty squirrely on the street and in turns...

The M/Ts work great, I have been able to pull 1.67 60 ft times with them @15psi
this is from the tech section on M/Ts website: Burnouts
The tread compound used in the ET Street Radials is designed to heat quickly and does not require a heavy burnout. Continue the burnout until the engine starts to pull down. We do not recommend a dry hop after the burnout.

thanks for the useless post, SImann....

so, were you doing excessive burnouts Reign_Maker? perhaps the tires were getting too hot?
