i've just gotten myself a 88 - 7MGE. It's rough around the edges right now, but with the tlc that i'm just dying to give it - it's my diamond in the rough!
I just took out the stock am/fm cassette stereo (it still works good!). I want to put in a new stereo.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram? i don't know what one is power, constant, ground, and speakers???? HELP??? :dunno:
just today i put on a 2.5 magnaflow exhaust from the cat back, threw in some new plugs, changed all the oils - what a difference..........smmmmmoooooooooth!!! :burnout: (yep, even a little burnout too!)
NOW ALL I NEED IS TUNES!!! ;) .....among other things, don't worry, there'll be more questions! ha ha

i'd go to best buy, or some other car stereo store, and get a wiring harness for it. that way, it tells you everything you need to know about which wires are what, as the harness is color coded and whatnot.

if they dont have one for the mkiii, then it's time to break out the multimeter, and just test the wires. (take off the door panel, that way you can do a continuity check for the speaker wires, and figure out what's what)

thats what i had to do, because the harness was cut out of mine when i got it. lots of testing. :)

You have a original working AM/FM-Cassette?
My cassette stopped working the day after the Toyota warrenty was over. Can you believe that!
Any way, I would get a wire harness that plugs into the wire harness in the vehicle like shaeff said. They do make one for your year car. Don't pay more than 5 bucks for one. If you have to change the radio again, you don't want to damage the factory harness.
This is the one I got for my '89 4Runner and I believe it was a similar thing I got for my '87 Supra.

There's another one too, I'm not sure why there's a difference:

If you still want a the wires, I'll have to look around the house. The wire harness comes with a schematic.

ok here ya go,
the easiest way is to buy a harness. usually about 15-25 dollars depending.

if you dont want to do that. there is another way. its fairly simple.
yellow is power ignition your main power,
red or orange is power constant. so it saves teh station/clock

black will be ground, but you can also use the antenna as a ground.

you cantest the power ignition by getting the yellow and ground hooked up, then hook up the red/org turn the deck on, set a station turn car off turn back on and see if the station stayed.

other than that, you its sort of a guessing game with the speaker wires. if you buy anew deck, it will tell you what wires go to what speaker, then you match up diff ones till the right speaker is turned on.

the harness is easier because you dont have to cut wires.

good luck with that.

Options
1)Purchase a wiring harness, their usually 10$ or less. This is you best and easiest option. It makes life so much simpler. You can usually pick them up anywhere that sells car stereos.

2)If somebody has already hacked off your original connectors, then use this diagram to figure out what goes where.

The best of luck to you and your new supra, and welcome to these forums.

What Chriso posted is what i used. Its all you need to know. I could'nt use a harness as an aftermarket head unit was allready installed and wired, not plugged by a harness. This list gives you the illumination, power antenna, everything you need if you want to use those features the Supra has.

Yo man I got my harness from an auto parts syore like autozone, advanced, pep boys. They all sell them and it is easy to do if you do have it installed professionally don't go to best buy the always mess crap up and also break stuff. If you lived in jersey I would have done it for you for a case of beer.
