Ok so I have a few problems with the new Supra that I would like some help with.

1. I just got this supra friday, and I went to pop the hood and it doesn't pop up. I have to manually grab near the headlights and pull up to get it where I can unlock it. What could that be from?

2. Severe hesitation! I step on the gas and there is nothing for about a second or two. Then it tosses me back.

3. For having everything in my sig block on this car, this thing should be like a little rocket ship when I go full throttle. Even at 1.5 bar( 19 psi ) there is hardly any pull what-so-ever. I know turbo lag yadda yadda yadda, but this is horrible.

4. Really loud popping sound from steering when I make a full lock turn ( like backing out my driveway ) It will actually pop several times until I take it off full lock ( or just before it ).

5. Seems to be missing a bit. You can hear it really good after a nice drive. Went down the street after letting it warm up and when I came home and let the turbo timer do it's thing, it sounds like a freight train ( with the chugging and all ;-) )
If anyone has any advice on this stuff, please I'm all ears. But please don't sit here and ask me what my mods are when they are right below.

Thanks in advance guys and gals.

1. Either the cable is stretched really bad or you need a new cable.

2. check for boost leaks and vac leaks.

3. specs?

4. Tie rod ends, rack bushings, or a new rack.

5. maintence

what do you want to know about specs? No clue on HP since I can't get it dynoed until I get it home and that is near the end of September. Thanks for the input too. I figured number 5 was due to plugs.....BUT since I just got the car, it takes time for the shop on the base to get the plugs in from the states. I refuse to pay the price in Euros! 1 plug is expensive enough in dollars.....imagine in Euros..... So, that problem will have to wait until I get it home.

Ngk coppers are 2$ a plug. They cant be that much in euros i wouldnt think.

What turbo is it. If its still a ct there shouldnt be any real lag.

It's a T4 from Garret rebuilt by Turbo Technics in the UK. I would have to stick my head in there to find the AR of it though.

Now it is missing so badly that it almost wants to stall out. That does not sound like plugs to me. There is no smoke no noises from the motor nothing.....It just feels and sounds ( in the exhaust ) like it is missing a cylinder or two.

The car was running fine as a daily driver for 2 years until it got to me here in germany. the guy that trailored it used it as a DD. He said that there were no issues at all. I drove it the first day with no problems. Now today it is running like shit. I will check the codes later and see what they are kicking

Lubricate the latch. Also, does the hood hold itself up? The hood struts help in popping the hood.

Any number of reasons, probably related to the miss you're also having.

See above.

Normal for the age of the car. Want it to go away? Replace the nylon endcaps on the lock stop bolts so it's not metal on metal.

Check codes, check fluids. Don't wanna be the first to say it, but BHG fits the bill. As does a major boost leak, timing being off, bad plugs, bad gas, ect ect.

The hood holds itself up just fine. hell it wants to go up once i give it that first nudge after opening it. I am praying to the car gods that it isn't the HG. If it is the wife is going to shoot me, then she will help me pick out a shop to do the 2JZ conversion. lol.

Amen! The car still has to make it back to the states. So if it a SCW ( sucking chest wound for us military folks or a BHG for those not ) then I am FUBAR! if it gets back to the states and then pops the seal, who gives a crap. Then I part the motor out and go 2J with a big T70 single.

Nuh the last part of their travel they cantilever down and don't exert any force ;)

I found adjusting the Hood stops can help "pop" it open.

My hood wouldn't pop when I bought my car, replaced the struts and it did. The struts on mine where completely blown (could compress them and they don't expand at all)

Coincidence ;)

Hold the hood about 4" from closed and let it drop you'll see what I mean.

The struts go over centre and do nothing.

well once it gets home I will be sure to grease the crap out of it. Plus it will be getting dyno tuned as long as I can find a shop near Clarksville TN that knows WTF they are doing.
