ha well ok i was wrong:] i admit it...but i know i will NEVER run a 6m crank in my motor or another 7m motor...ever.....But what i meant was that since the 6m rev's quicker...it is harsher on the bearings than the 7m....and all the times i've seen a knock, or a spun bearing, it's common on the number 3.......but i guess thats me:]...whatever...

Does anyone know what specs the Toyota dealers use when they fix headgaskets on the MK3?

There was a thread on here not too long ago about someone who bought a Supra that had the HG replaced by the dealer asking about it, but there was not an clear answer given in the thread.

The poster thought that Toyota had put revised specs in their system, but no one confirmed.

Anyone know for sure what they use?

I've seen roasted bearings on 2 6M cranks. One on #2 and one on #5.

I guess it's just me....but thats what i've learned from my experiences and others experiences...Here where i live...there are only about 8-12 supras(and about 20 cressida's with the 6m crank)...that have all slung some type of bearing...i've talked to the mechanics that have worked on them and the number 3 popped up the most times....thats the statistics for this little old town......i dunno about anywhere else......

so now i know...that ANY bearing could and can be spun on the 6m crank and EVEN the 7m crank or shite...any crank.....

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully for the sake of a few of us, that's not the case. :icon_conf I'll have to ask when I go up to the dealer in a day or two and see if I can get a straight answer.

I can verify that two of the major Toyota dealers around here do the same thing. At the 3rd there's a Supra owner so he does 72 ft/lbs, but that's one mechanic out of 30 at that dealership...

As a mechanic, I can tell you they'll go by the book. If the manual says 58 ft. lbs., that's what it gets. Now, once you get it back, you can retorque it to what ever you want, just don't expect them to honor the warranty if anything goes wrong, and they figure out you've been in there.

Ok, got the motor form engine trend in riverside Ca. (Good place) the striped everything down except the water pump, then they cleaned and re-greased the head. all i had to do is swap the oil pan and pump and all brackets, droped it in put everything else back on and started it right up...took it to the canyon last night, Works proper...now for power upgrades:)
