I am just wondering what your opinions on the HKS super mega flow air intake for an 86.5 to 92 turbo are. Does anyone strongly dislike it or had any major problems with it. Is there a better one out there for similar cost?

Thanks

I second the Apexi filter!

HKS is one of the worst filters. They let a lot of dirt pass through, and the oil from the filter isn't good for the AFM. Check this link to see how HKS, K&N, Blitz, and Apexi filters stack up against each other.

Thank you for the link, as far as everything goes, I just figured that the design on the hks was less restrictive, but just as shown in the tests, it showed the problem I was most afraid of, bad filtration. Since all hp gains seem to be the same, it looks like I wont be getting that one and will be looking to get the Apexi. Thanks again.

Anyone know how the AEM DryFlow compares to the Apexi? I'm curious as to which filter catches more dirt without impeding the air flow.

I did a Google search to see if there was ever a test performed between the two, but I'm coming up empty.

I'd like to know which flows better too. I've been running an Apex'i filter, and they are small enough to fit under my headlight for a cold-air-intake, but they are limited to a 3" intake size. Good to know that the AEM's come in 4", I'll have to look and see if I could fit one under there.

I'm currently running an AMS Oil filter right now and am happy with the filtering compared to my previous HKS. However, I have no idea what kind of flow rates it achieves compared to the other, more expensive filters on the market.

The HKS filters are a POS, as are K&N...I'm with the AEM DryFlow crowd ;)

Meh.... The Apexi filter wasn't SO much better than the K&N. Personally, I'd rather "sacrifice" 1BHP and clean/oil my K&N than go with that hideous Apexi filter...

Pics of said AEM Dry-Flow?

Yeah, and the oil from the K&N contaminates the AFM sensor and the filter doesn't stop dirt from getting in the motor. Useless IMO.

If you want to see pics of the AEM DryFlow...they have a website. ;)

They make them for almost any application in any size you need.

Im liking the AEM. I still wouldn't call the K&N useless as it blocks plenty of dirt(though the dry flow types block more). As for the AFM messing up- couldn't it just be from people over oiling the filter??

As for the AEM filters... Would I have to buy a universal filter? I did a search for our cars and nothing about a filter came up...

The problem is, everyone over oils the filter...more is better, right?
Even without over oiling it, oil gets on the sensor...the Karman Vortex AFM uses a photo-coupler to measure vibrations of a thin foil mirror. Any oil will cause a drop in efficiency. I stand by my statement: K&N filters are useless...actually do more harm than good.

You will have to get an universal AEM...just measure the diameter of your AFM adapter and make sure the length will fit.
